An apparatus is configured for use with a chair having a supporting surface, and includes a bottom member having a cushioning member, the bottom member adapted to be placed above the supporting surface. The bottom member has a rear edge adapted to be placed proximate a rear of the chair and a front edge opposite the rear edge. The apparatus further includes a top member having a bottom surface positioned in confronting relation to the bottom member and a top surface opposite the bottom surface. The top member and the bottom member are connected to each other along at least one of the front and rear edges, and at least a portion of the top member is slidable with respect to the bottom member. The apparatus further includes a second cushioning member connected to a rear end of the apparatus and adapted to extend upward from the rear end.

Contouring device

The invention relates to a contouring device for a seat base, backrest, or mattress. The device comprises a substrate having a first surface and an opposing second surface, the first and second surfaces each comprising a plurality of pockets adapted to receive one or more inserts therein. Inserts of various sizes and shapes can be placed within selected pockets of the device to provide a contoured surface that suits the needs of the user of the device. For example, the device can be adapted to provide contours that encourage a user to adopt a preferred posture when seated or lying down.

Sliding arm mechanism for wheelchairs

A sliding arm mechanism for attaching to an arm of a wheelchair is provided herein. One concept of the present disclosure is directed to a sliding arm mechanism that includes a main portion having a top area, a bottom area, first and second opposing end areas, first and second opposing side areas and an inner cavity. The sliding arm mechanism also includes a slide rail, comprising a top side, a bottom side and an elongated aperture located between the top side and the bottom side, which is adapted to be housed within the inner cavity of the main portion. The bottom side of the slide rail is removably coupled to a top part of the arm of the wheelchair. The slide rail and the main portion are slidably coupled to allow the main portion to move laterally over the slide rail in a direction parallel to the top part of the arm of the wheelchair, thus allowing the main portion to move between a first position and a second position. In some embodiments, the first position corresponds to a full-length position and the second position corresponds to a desk-length position, such that a user can adjust the sliding arm mechanism to be able to access a desk or table.

Device for supporting a body part

A method of supporting a body part (16), comprising providing a device (100) comprising: a first portion (105) configured to support a body part, wherein, in use, the body part applies a first pressure to the first portion in a first direction; means for detecting the first pressure; and a second portion (115) having means (212) for applying a second pressure to the body part in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction; detecting the first pressure; determining the second pressure based on a user parameter; and applying the second pressure to the body part in the second direction at a pre-determined ratio relative to the first pressure using said means for applying the second pressure.

Mobility Device Seat

A seat for a mobility device accommodating flexibility, personalized comfort, and transportability. The seat can include a button push means to enable movement of a height-adjustable armrest. The seat back can fold upon the seat for transportability. The seat cushion and armrest cushion can be removably mounted and separately replaceable. The seat can be mounted upon various types of devices, including, but not limited to, wheelchairs.

Mobility aid

A mobility aid is provided. The mobility aid includes a mobile base movable along a mobile-base-movement plane, the mobile base having a plurality of wheels. The mobility aid also includes a seat pivotably coupled to the mobile base in a manner so as to be pivotable between a sitting disposition, in which the seat is oriented parallel to the mobile-base-movement plane, and a standing disposition, in which the seat is oriented perpendicular to the mobile-base-movement plane and a sitting surface of the seat is facing forward with respect to a forward-movement direction of the mobile base. The mobility aid also includes a balance-assist unit having a balance-assist-linkage mechanism coupled to the seat, and a body-support-module coupled to the balance-assist-linkage mechanism. Components of the balance-assist-linkage mechanism are jointed in a manner movable to allow movements of the body-support-module relative to the seat along a module-movement-plane parallel to the mobile-base-movement plane when the seat is in the standing disposition.

Systems and methods for pressure injury mitigation

A cushion has at least one fluid chamber and at least one cushion conduit to enable fluid to be added to or removed from the at least one fluid chamber of the cushion. A management system for the cushion has a pressure sensor to measure a pressure of fluid in the at least one fluid chamber of the cushion and to transmit a sensor report with the measured pressure, a tube having a first end connecting to the cushion conduit, a second end leading to the pressure sensor, and a valve to enable fluid to be added to or removed from the at least one fluid chamber of the cushion through the cushion conduit and a processor to receive the sensor report, determine a pressure value of the at least one fluid chamber of the cushion based on the measured pressure in the sensor report, and generate a status indicative of the pressure value of the fluid chamber of the cushion.

Thermoelectric string, panel, and covers for function and durability

A thermoelectric device comprising an elongated panel of two foam layers, and having an inserted thermoelectric string is incorporated into a seat cushion, planting pot, and battery thermal manager. Several enhancements to the string and the panel improve its durability, visual appeal, and tactile appeal over the prior art.
