20200079153 · 2020-03-12 ·

There is described a caster wheel support assembly for a wheelchair, the caster wheel support assembly having a first section configured to be securable to a frame member of the wheelchair and a second section configured to hold a swivel member coupled to a caster wheel. The caster wheel support assembly has a holding member designed as a collet configured to hold a first portion of the swivel member, in which first portion extends along a first axis. A second portion of the swivel member, which is coupled to the caster wheel, extends away from the first portion along a second axis, in which second axis forms an angle relative to the first axis. The holding member and swivel member are configured such that the first portion of the swivel member is supported by the holding member to selectively allow rotation of the swivel member relative to the holding member about the first axis and thereby cause adjustment of a camber of the caster wheel. The collet is configured to selectively allow clamping of the swivel member onto the holding member, thereby preventing rotation of the swivel member relative to the holding member, and release of the swivel member with respect to the holding member, thereby permitting rotation of the swivel member relative to the holding member.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a wheelchair for a wheelchair rider, the wheelchair having first and second wheel arms each pivotally mounted so as to allow the alignment of the first arm to move relative to the second arm through a range of relative alignment in response to the rider leaning laterally. First and second wheel mounts are provided on first and second arms respectively to mount respective first and second wheels with central axes of first and second wheels able to move in an arc about the point of pivotal mounting of the respective first or second arm.

MANUAL WHEELCHAIR HAVING INTEGRATED MOTOR HOUSING AND CAMBER TUBE STRUCTURE

A manual wheelchair has a camber tube that supports manual drive wheels for rotation relative to a wheelchair frame. A pair of drive motors are housed within the camber tube and connect to an axle shaft supported within a wheel hub. The axle shaft has a distal end defining an angle accommodating and torque-transmitting profile that connects to the drive motor. The axle shaft has a proximal end defining a torque transmitting connection with a drive disconnect assembly that selectively permits engagement of the drive motor to the wheel hub. The axle shaft supports a retaining ball and an actuator to permit the drive wheel to be removed from the wheelchair. The drive disconnect assembly permits the motor to be mechanically disconnected from the wheel hub to reduce drag and friction when the wheelchair is operated manually.

WHEELCHAIR FRAME

A tube assembly for a wheelchair frame comprises a tubular member having at least a first portion and a second portion angled relative to the first portion, the first portion configured to be in a seating zone of the wheelchair frame. The second portion is configured to be in a bottom front zone of the wheelchair frame, the tubular member defining a surface concavity in its peripheral surface delimited by a peripheral step, the surface concavity located at a junction between the first portion and the second portion of the tubular member. An interface member has a peripheral contour shaped and sized for the interface member to be received in the surface concavity and contoured at least partially by the peripheral step.

WHEELCHAIR BACKREST AND REAR WHEEL ASSEMBLY

A system of bracket assemblies for a wheelchair comprises a pair of bracket assemblies adapted to be connected to respective sides of a seat frame of the wheelchair. Each of the bracket assemblies has a base adapted to be secured to a seat frame member of the seat frame, an arm adapted to be secured to a backrest frame member of a backrest frame, and a pivot pivotally connecting the base to the arm for rotational movement of the arm relative to the base. One or more blocking mechanism blocks the rotational movement of the arm relative to the base in a use orientation of the backrest frame. A rod having opposed ends connected to the base of the pair of the bracket assemblies for spacing the bracket assemblies away from one another. A rear wheel unit is also provided.
