Measuring Temperature for Monitoring and Control of a Fiber Web or Finishing Machine

A method for the monitoring and control of the operating conditions of a fiber web machine or paper finishing machine, where the monitoring and control are performed on a rotatable machine element (41) equipped with a sensor assembly (24) that measures temperature, and generates a measurement signal (25), and a cross-directional temperature profile (21) of the machine element is generated from the measurement signal. One or more reference profiles (35) are generated for the cross-directional temperature profile of the machine element. The cross-directional temperature profile of the machine element generated from the measurement signal and at least one reference profile generated for it are compared to find a change concerning the operating conditions of the fiber web machine or paper finishing machine, and actions are performed on the basis of said change. The invention also relates to a corresponding system, a rotating machine element and a computer program product.

WOUND ROLL QUALITY INSTRUMENT AND METHOD

This disclosure relates generally to enabling a user to (1) determine the radial stiffness of the outer surface of a winding or wound roll, and (2) when coupled with a winding/contact model results in a virtual instrument allowing the user to explore the residual stresses due to winding in roll-to-roll manufacturing process machines, and (3) allows the user to predict winding defects and hence roll quality based upon the known residual stresses. Wound roll models require the input of a radial modulus of elasticity which is state dependent on interlayer pressure. The hardware of the disclosure can be used to determine this radial modulus and serves to enable the user to (1) use winding/contact models and (2) with measurements made during or after winding enable the user to estimate the winding residual stresses.

Paper web having a surface that includes a plurality of sections, at least one of the sections having a plurality of positions, with ink applied to the paper web surface at some of the plurality of positions

A paper web includes a surface having a plurality of sections. At least one section of the plurality of sections has a plurality of positions. The plurality of positions each has an equal length and is obtained by subdividing the at least one section. The paper web also includes ink applied to the surface of the paper web at some of the plurality of positions.

Method of controlling a converting line used to convert a paper web into paper products by reading marks on the paper web

A method of controlling a converting line that produces a paper product. The method includes unwinding a paper web from a parent roll on a converting line having a plurality of operational parameters. The paper web includes a plurality of sections and a plurality of marks, with at least one mark assigned to each of the plurality of sections and each mark associated with a paper rating. At least one of the plurality of marks is read with a mark reading unit. The paper rating associated with the at least one mark read by the reading unit is obtained. At least one operational parameter of the converting line based upon the obtained paper rating is changed. The paper web is converted into a paper product.

A converting line for processing tissue paper includes an unwinder for unwinding reels of tissue paper; a rewinding machine for forming rolls of tissue paper; a feeding path between the unwinder and the rewinding machine, for at least one ply of tissue paper; along the feeding path, a first detection unit to detect the thickness of the tissue paper fed along the feeding path in a feeding direction; a control system, interfacing with the detection unit, and configured to act on at least one production parameter of the converting line based on the detected tissue paper thickness.

REEL EDITOR FOR PRE-PRINT PAPER, SHEET, AND BOX MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS
20240150146 · 2024-05-09 ·

Systems for providing efficient manufacturing of paper, sheet, and/or box products of varying size and structure, often with pre-applied print (pre-print), are provided herein. Efficient customer ordering/tracking, job aggregation, print imposition, corrugator planning, and tracking and adjustments throughout the manufacturing process are contemplated. A reel editor is configured to edit the roll based on waste and/or errors that occurred during various manufacturing processes (e.g., during printing). A control plan defining what is on each roll of printed web product may be updated after editing. Depending on the configuration, the reel editor may be integrated with various manufacturing components. The reel editor may be configured to determine if there is enough waste on the roll to even making editing worthwhile, such as based on desired quality of the images, customer requirements, different price points, among other possible factors.

A sensor signal is generated from a plurality of sensors located on a sensing roll, wherein each signal is generated when each sensor enters a first nip between the sensing roll and a rotating component during each rotation of the sensing roll. A rotating applicator rod forms forming a second nip with the sensing roll such that each sensor enters the second nip during each rotation of the sensing roll. A periodically occurring starting reference is generated associated with each rotation of the applicator rod and the signal generated by each sensor is received so that a particular one of the sensors which generated the signal is determined and one of a plurality of tracking segments is identified. The signal is stored to associate the sensor signal with the identified one tracking segment.
