Tear resistant nanofiber sheet

One or more nanofiber yarns can be placed in contact with one or more nanofiber sheets. The nanofiber yarns, which include single-ply and multi-ply nanofiber yarns, provide added mechanical stability to a nanofiber sheet that decreases the likelihood of a nanofiber sheet wrinkling, folding, or otherwise becoming stuck to itself. Furthermore, the nanofiber yarns integrated with the nanofiber sheet can also act as a mechanism to prevent the propagation of tears through the nanofiber sheet. In some cases, an infiltrating material can be infiltrated into interstitial spaces defined by the nanofibers within both the nanofiber yarns and the nanofiber sheets. The infiltrating material can then form a continuous network throughout the nanofiber yarns and the nanofiber sheet.

Composition and process for applying hydrophobic coating to fibrous substrates

Fabrics are treated with a hydrophobic treatment that includes at least one hydrophobic monomer and a crosslinker. The treatment is low in volatile organic compounds and water. It is a liquid at 22 C. or a suspension having a phase that is liquid at 22 C. The monomer and crosslinker are cured in a free radical polymerization to form a hydrophobic coating on a fibrous substrate. The curing is performed by removing interstitial air from the fabric and then curing the fabric in a low oxygen environment without allowing it contact with oxygen or air from the time the interstitial air is removed until conversion of monomers reaches at least 50%.

FABRIC

A fabric is provided. The fabric includes a base cloth and a coating layer. The coating layer is disposed on the base cloth, and the coating layer includes a resin matrix and a temperature-regulating powder, wherein the content of the temperature-regulating powder ranges from 20 to 80 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the resin matrix, and the material of the temperature-regulating powder includes modified polyaniline.

Electrostatic filament dispersal for CMC

A method of preparing a woven fabric material for use in a ceramic matrix composite includes passing a desized woven fabric tape having a first inter-filament spacing through a dispersal module configured to transform the desized woven fabric tape into a dispersed woven fabric tape having a second inter-filament spacing greater than the first inter-filament spacing. The dispersal module includes a first charging element with a charged surface and disposed to apply an electric charge to the desized woven fabric tape. The method further includes applying a polymer binder to the dispersed woven fabric tape to create a stabilized woven fabric tape having the second inter-filament spacing.

IMPROVED WATER REPELLENT SUBSTRATE AND APPLICATION METHOD THEREFOR

A water repellent fibrous substrate comprising a cured hydrophobic coating layer located on the fibrous substrate; and a hydrophobic plasma polymer coating layer located on the hydrophobic coating layer. The hydrophobic plasma polymer layer may be used to protect the cured hydrophobic coating layer on said fibrous substrate from abrasion or general wear.
