CARPET TILES AND METHODS OF THEIR MANUFACTURE
A carpet tile comprises a primary backing layer comprising a flexible substrate with fiber tufts extending through and from one surface of the substrate to define, in use, the upper wear surface of the tile. A pre-coat adhesive layer formed from an aqueous copolymer dispersion is provided on the opposite surface of the primary backing substrate to secure the fiber tufts to the substrate and a secondary adhesive layer formed from an aqueous copolymer dispersion is provided on the pre-coat adhesive layer. A fiberglass scrim is secured to the secondary adhesive layer and an outer backing or cap layer covers the fiberglass scrim.
Odor control composition and carpet having a durable odor control property
A deodorant composition comprising a compound containing an aryl group and exhibiting an acidic property, a carrier, and an optional compatibilizing agent.
Adhesive formulations for carpets
The invention provides carpet bonding agents with improved flow properties and improved strength and physical properties when compared to conventional binder systems for carpets. Thus, in various embodiments, the invention provides an adhesive formulation comprising a carpet latex formulation; a plasticized carpet latex; a waterproof additive; a defoamer; and an antibacterial. The invention also provides uses of the materials and combinations of the materials described herein.
FLOOR COVERING WITH UNIVERSAL BACKING AND METHODS OF MAKING AND RECYCLING
A dimensionally stable universal floor covering includes a tufted textile having stitches and a reinforcement layer operatively connected to the stitches to provide dimensional stability for the entire floor covering. The reinforcement layer is made of fibers and adhesive that are formed into a reinforcement layer of laminated fibers that is operatively connected to the stitches and/or the fibers and adhesive are formed into a layer of fibers and adhesive that is contained within the stitches. The fibers and adhesive are mixed and then moved by an applicator toward the stitches. A curved slip path is formed on a curved portion of the applicator to improve the movement of the fibers and adhesive toward the stitches. A removable tip portion on the end of the curved portion of the applicator improves the penetration of the adhesive and provides compression of the fibers towards the ends of the stitches. A releasable adhesive cover system is provided to cover the layer of fibers for providing additional strength and stability and for providing a releasable attachment of the universal floor covering to a supporting surface.
METHOD OF APPLYING A THEROMPLASTIC POLYMER COATING
The invention comprises a method. The method comprises applying a quantity of an aqueous dispersion of thermoplastic polymer particles to a primary backing and loop backs of a tufted carpet or a tufted synthetic turf, wherein the thermoplastic particles have an average particle size less than 1,000 microns. The method also comprises heating the aqueous dispersion to a temperature sufficient to remove water therefrom, and heating the thermoplastic particles on the primary backing and loop backs to a temperature at or above the melting temperature of the thermoplastic particles. The method further comprises allowing the heated thermoplastic polymer particles to cool below their melting temperature whereby the loop backs are adhered to the primary backing.
Carpet coating compositions of improved stability formed from vinyl acetate/ethylene copolymer dispersions
Disclosed are aqueous carpet-coating compositions suitable for use as binders or adhesives in carpet products. Such compositions, prior to being applied to carpet substrates and cured, comprise: A) a selected type of vinyl acetate/ethylene (VAE) copolymer dispersion which has been stabilized with emulsifiers and a cellulose ether-based protective colloid, and B) at least one carbon black based filler in the form of a dispersion/slurry with a solids content between 20 and 70%. These coating compositions exhibit especially desirable initial viscosity and viscosity stability characteristics. Carpet products which utilize such coating compositions to provide binder and/or adhesive layer within the carpet are also disclosed. Such carpet products can have desirable odor-controlling and odor-absorbing properties.
Mineral filler compositions, methods for making mineral filler compositions and carpets manufactured from same
Disclosed are calcium carbonate mineral filler compositions, wherein the composition has a mineral content characterized by a weight ratio of calcium to magnesium of at least 10:1, and wherein the composition is at least substantially free of calcium oxide. Also disclosed are methods for making a mineral filler composition from a renewable biological source of calcium carbonate. Also disclosed are carpets comprising the mineral filler from renewable biological source produced by the methods disclosed herein.
Floor coverings with universal backing and methods of making, installing, and recycling
A dimensionally stable floor covering comprises a tufted textile substrate and a reinforcement layer attached to the textile substrate. The reinforcement layer includes an adhesive backing compound and reinforcement fibers surrounded by the adhesive backing. The fibers may form a continuous layer on the back side of the floor covering or may be dispersed within the adhesive backing compound. The adhesive backing compound may be hot water-soluble to facilitate recycling of the floor covering. The floor covering may optionally include additional backing layers (including cushions) and may be used as a broadloom carpet, a carpet tile, or other modular floor covering products. Methods of manufacturing, installing, and recycling the present floor coverings are also provided.
Floor covering with universal backing and methods of making and recycling
A dimensionally stable universal floor covering includes a tufted textile having stitches and a reinforcement layer operatively connected to the stitches to provide dimensional stability for the entire floor covering. The reinforcement layer is made of fibers that are initially contained within a composition of adhesive and fibers. Mixing of the adhesive/fibers composition and/or injection of compressed air, assists in preparing the adhesive and fiber composition to be in the preferred condition and position prior to the forming of the reinforcement layer. Multiple sources of pressure, including vacuum, are applied in a controlled manner for moving the adhesive and fiber composition to form a reinforcement layer of fibers that is operatively connected to the stitches and/or to form a layer of fibers and adhesive that is contained within the stitches. The universal floor covering is selectively cut and transported in a roll for installation, and it can be conveniently recycled if necessary.
Carpets having an improved delamination strength and fluid barrier properties and methods of making same
A moisture resistant carpet exhibiting exceptional delamination strength and methods of making same are disclosed.
