A roof ridge and hip ridge vent system for contoured roofs which include a vent slot located through the roof structure. A contoured roofing material forms the roof surface. Vent strips are provided on the roof surface that extend on each side of the vent slot. The vent strip is comprised of synthetic fibers that are randomly aligned into an open web by an air flow and then joined by a phenolic or latex binder to form an air permeable mesh material having a generally uniform thickness, a density of about 0.08 to 0.1 grams per cubic centimeter (1.3 to 1.6 grams per cubic inch), and a crush recovery of at least 80%. A first longitudinally extending groove extends from the bottom surface about 40% to 60% of a height of the vent strip and is located a distance of at least about 1 inch from a downslope side.

A ridge vent for tile roofs is provided having a vent strip located on each side of a roof ridge. The ridge vent includes a center water dam having a centering portion and two leg portions, with the centering portion being located over a ridge board. The vent strips includes a vent material, formed from a non-woven mat, including a first surface, which matches a surface of the tile roof, and a second surface. An upper water barrier is attached to the second surface of at least one of the vent strips and extends over the roof ridge. The ridge vent is rollable and can be provided as one piece or as separate components.

A roof system includes a roof deck and a plurality of roof rafters supporting the roof deck. A thermal break is located between the deck and a first rafter of the plurality of rafters. The thermal break includes a break inner member contacting a first rafter exterior surface of the first rafter and a break outer member contacting a deck inner surface of the roof deck. The break inner member and the break outer member bound a thermal air break therebetween.
