An improvement in a rolling shutter assembly for covering an opening of a structure defined by a top wall, a bottom wall and oppositely disposed side walls. The rolling shutter assembly includes a shutter housing, a shutter support member rotatably disposed within the shutter housing, a shutter coupled to the shutter support member, the shutter comprising a plurality of individual slats and a plurality of hinges interconnecting the slats, and a pair of side tracks. The shutter rolls between a rolled position wherein the shutter is rolled onto the shutter support member and an unrolled position wherein the shutter covers the opening and the ends of the slats are disposed within the channels of the corresponding side tracks. The improvement comprises a support frame having top, bottom and side rails mounted to the walls defining the opening with the side tracks each mounted to a corresponding one of the side rails of the support frame. The support frame reduces or eliminates the transmission of torsion loads from the shutter to the framing elements of the walls during positive and negative pressure conditions.

WINDOW PANEL SYSTEM

A temporary panel and panel system. The panel system comprises a fabric held in a two-part, snap-together window panel system. The panel system is attachable to a window trim system to secure it temporarily until fasteners can be driven into the panel system and the channel of the window frame. The window trim includes a fastener boss that helps to hold the fasters that hold the panel to the window frame. The fabric of the panel system is made of a geotextile. The marginal edge of the geotextile may be coated with urethane adhesive before being inserted between the two parts of the panel system. Placement of fasteners along the perimeter of the panel system is guided by a centering groove in the connector system that positions the fastener over a fastener boss in the window frame. The panel system, help temporarily in place to the window frame, may then be securely attached by fasteners driven into the panel frame.

Press-fit window insert

A press-fit window insert configured to provide secondary protection to an existing window, having a carrier, a fin, and a fastening clip. The carrier includes a substantially rigid framework having channels within the framework configured to securely accept one or more attachments. The fin extends from the carrier and includes a substantially flexible blade extending from a base portion of the fin. The base portion of the fin is configured to interlock the fin to the carrier. The fastening clip includes a substantially rigid brim extending from a base portion of the fastening clip. The base portion of the fastening clip is configured to interlock the fastening clip to the carrier.

PROTECTION PANEL SYSTEMS AND METHODS

Disclosed herein are building opening protection panel systems and methods for windows, doors, and other portals that may be vulnerable to damage, such as external projectiles or wind and debris forces active during storms. The protection panel systems and methods may include a lightweight multi-wall plastic panel housed within a lightweight solid plastic shell, which can be inserted into the building opening to prevent external wind pressures and other elements from infiltrating and/or causing damage to the building and its interior contents. The multi-wall plastic panel may include through-holes and/or other apertures for threading anchoring straps. The multi-wall plastic panel threaded with straps may then be inserted and affixed within the solid plastic shell to provide a wind proof exterior face. The multi-wall plastic panel within the solid plastic shell may then be fastened to a window sash, door, and/or other anchoring structure within the building opening using the straps.

Window Panel Installation System For Protection Against Strong Winds

A window frame protection system, for holding an exterior and an interior protective panel against a window, includes an extruded lineal having a first stacked screw boss, an exterior protective panel and a groove with covering cap. Anchoring screws driven through the exterior panel and into the stacked screw boss hold the panel to the lineal. A chamber for a second stacked screw boss, and a part of the extruded lineal, is to attach an interior panel to the window frame when additional window protection is needed and when the exterior of the window frame is not accessible. The second stacked screw boss may be inserted into the chamber during construction or, if the chamber is left open, may be added only when needed. A sash support on the interior of the window frame receives a sill riser for meeting higher design loads on the window sash.
