A tubular for downhole use, the tubular including a pipe, an insulation layer surrounding the pipe, and a protective layer around the insulation layer and comprising a polymer. The protective layer can also include a compression layer adjacent to the insulation layer. There may be reinforcement material in the protective layer, for example encapsulated by the elastomer. The tubular may have bare portions at the ends for manipulation of the tubulars to form a tubing string. A sleeve may be provided using the same layer structure to insulate the bare portions which form joints of the tubing string. The sleeve can also include a base layer.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR LASER DRILLING

There is a method for drilling a borehole in a rock formation by bombarding the borehole bottom with a laser beam, which is generated by a laser-beam generator situated outside the borehole and is guided by means of suitable auxiliary devices to a laser-drilling head situated at the borehole bottom. The drilling head is coupled with a drill rod, wherein nitrogen, supplied to the laser-drilling head via the drill rod, is split into a partial stream serving as protective gas, which protects the transmitted laser beam from interfering suspended particles. There is a further partial stream, serving as a conveying-gas stream, which transports the rock material detached from the borehole bottom out of the borehole via an annular space remaining between drill rod and borehole wall. The laser beam is guided to a laser drilling head by extending through a laser guide tube.

GEOTHERMAL POWER FROM SUPERHOT GEOTHERMAL FLUID AND MAGMA RESERVOIRS
20230272946 · 2023-08-31 ·

System, method, and apparatus for harnessing geothermal power from superhot geothermal fluid (SHGF) and magma reservoirs. An exemplary embodiment is directed to a cased wellbore includes a well casing suspended within a borehole that extends between a surface and an underground reservoir of magma and a boiler casing housed within the well casing and extending between the surface and the underground reservoir of magma. The boiler casing has a first end submerged within the underground reservoir of magma and a terminal end opposite to the first end. The cased wellbore also includes a fluid conduit housed within the boiler casing and configured to deliver a liquid-phase fluid to the terminal end of the boiler casing. A temperature and a pressure at the terminal end of the boiler casing converts the liquid-phase fluid into a gas-phase fluid that travels through the boiler casing towards the surface. The cased wellbore also includes a well head connected to the first end of the boiler casing.

Heat transfer prevention method for wellbore heating system

A method for thermally insulating a power cable or other temperature sensitive equipment from a wellbore tool comprising a heater. The wellbore tool is deployed at an end of the power cable in a well. A flow restrictor is deployed in an annular space between the heater and a wellbore tubular. The heater is axially spaced apart from the power cable such that the heater is disposed on one side of the flow restrictor and a connection to the power cable is disposed on another side of the flow restrictor. A thermal insulator is introduced into the annular space on the one side of the flow restrictor and the heater is operated.

INSULATING FLUID FOR THERMAL INSULATION

An insulating fluid system includes an acidic nanosilica dispersion and an alkaline activator. The acidic nanosilica dispersion includes silica nanoparticles and a stabilizer, such as a carboxylic acid. The alkaline activator includes an alkanolamine, such as a monoalkanolamine. A mixture of the acidic nanosilica dispersion and the alkaline activator forms an insulating fluid having a pH greater than 7 and less than or equal to 12, and the insulating fluid forms an insulating gel when heated to a temperature in a range between 100° F. and 300° F. The insulating gel may be formed in an annulus between an inner conduit and an outer conduit. The inner and outer conduits may be positioned in a subterranean formation. Forming an insulating gel may include combining the acidic nanosilica dispersion with the alkaline activator to yield the insulating fluid, and heating the insulating fluid to form the insulating gel.
