Methods for recovering a mineral from a mineral-bearing deposit
11634978 · 2023-04-25 · ·

The disclosure provides methods and systems for recovering a target mineral from a mineral-bearing deposit. One or more first wells and one or more second wells are drilled into the deposit, each well having a substantially vertical section and a substantially horizontal section, the horizontal section of the second wells located above the horizontal section of the first wells. At least one channel from the horizontal section of each first well toward the horizontal section of the second wells is established. A fluid is injected into the deposit from the horizontal section of the first wells to form one or more slots. A brine is recovered from the horizontal section of the second wells, forming a cavity. A salt solution is then injected into the cavity from the horizontal section of the second wells and a target mineral-enriched solvent is recovered from the first wells.

Methods for Stimulating a Hydrocarbon-bearing Formation by Perforating a Wellbore and Introducing an Acidic Composition in the Wellbore
20230120003 · 2023-04-20 ·

The invention includes methods for stimulating a hydrocarbon-bearing formation by perforating a wellbore and introducing an acidic composition in the wellbore. A preferred embodiment includes inserting an isolation plug in the wellbore at a predetermined location followed by inserting a perforating tool and a breakdown acid into the wellbore. The wellbore is perforated by the tool to create a perforated area. The breakdown acid is allowed to come into contact with the perforated area for a predetermined period of time sufficient to prepare the formation for stimulation. The tool is then removed from the wellbore wherein stimulation of the perforated area is thereby initiated. Also disclosed is a corrosion inhibiting composition for use with the acidic composition.

Method for expansion of mature brine wells in salt domes
11629595 · 2023-04-18 · ·

A method for expanding a mature brine well cavern includes determining the position and depth of an insoluble deposit and the volume and depth of a salt formation in the well. An outer drill casing is used to penetrate the soluble deposit and the salt underneath the insoluble deposit. The method further includes drilling continuously through the insoluble deposit and drilling into the salt formation.

Systems and methods to increase the durability of carbonate reservoir acidizing

Systems and methods for predicting and optimizing the effects of acidizing treatment of carbonate rock are disclosed. The disclosed methods predict the conflicting effects of increased production (i.e., wormhole creation) and reduced rock compressive strength due to acid rock reactions. The mechanical stability of stimulated wellbores, such as horizontal wellbores, can be determined under different acidizing conditions, such as acid type and volume. The acidizing conditions can be optimized to maximize short and long-term production.

OSMOTIC SOLUTION MINING

A process for solution mining of minerals is disclosed. The process comprises injecting an unsaturated stream (150) at an injection pressure into a mineral formation (130) to dissolve the mineral and extracting a high concentration stream (110) containing said dissolved mineral. The process comprising converting latent osmotic energy present in said high concentration stream into an increase in the total pressure of said stream by passage through an osmotic power unit (200) and generating electricity and reducing to the injection pressure the total pressure of a reduced concentration output stream (150) by passage through a power generating device (250) and using the reduced concentration output stream (150) at the injection pressure as the unsaturated stream (150). A process for storing a fuel in an underground formation is also disclosed.

DOWNHOLE SMART COMPLETION MULTI-ACCESS TOOLS FOR ACID STIMULATION

A downhole access tool for accessing a lateral branch of a wellbore includes a tool body, a sliding sleeve, and a deflector device including a deflector plate and a deflector actuator operatively coupled to the deflector plate. A central conduit extends axially through the downhole access tool. The sliding sleeve is slidable relative to the tool body in an axial direction between a closed position and an open position. In the closed position, the sliding sleeve restricts access through the opening. In the open position, the sliding sleeve permits access through the opening. The deflector actuator transitions the deflector plate between a deflection position and a passthrough position. In the deflection position, the deflector plate deflects tooling radially outward towards the opening. In the passthrough position, the deflector plate allows access axially through the central conduit.
