MONITORING HEALTH OF ADDITIVE SYSTEMS
A monitoring system operable to monitor an oilfield additive system having multiple components. The oilfield additive system is operable to transfer an additive-containing substance for injection into a wellbore. The monitoring system includes sensors each associated with, and operable to generate information related to an operational parameter of, a corresponding one of the oilfield additive system components. The monitoring system also includes a monitoring device in communication with the sensors and operable to record the information generated by the sensors to generate a database. The database includes information indicative of maintenance aspects of the oil-field additive system and/or the oilfield additive system components.
DETERMINING EXPECTED SENSOR VALUES FOR DRILLING TO MONITOR THE SENSOR
Aspects of the disclosure can relate to simulating expected sensor values associated with a drill tool (e.g., a drill assembly) before drilling to monitor the sensor. A planned trajectory for the drill assembly is received, where the planned trajectory is associated with a borehole to be drilled by the drill assembly along a geographic path. Next, an expected position for the drill assembly is determined along the geographic path. Then, an expected sensor value for a sensor associated with the drill assembly is simulated at the expected position. Next, an actual sensor value at an actual position corresponding to the expected position is determined. Then, the expected sensor value and the actual sensor value are dynamically displayed together at a user interface.
Bend measurements of adjustable motor assemblies using strain gauges
A wellbore assembly is provided that can include a first motor housing assembly member and a second motor housing assembly member that can bend relative to the first motor housing assembly at a bend location. The assembly can also include a strain gauge positioned on a first side of the bend location to determine an amount of bend of the second motor housing assembly member relative to the first motor housing assembly member by determining a strain. Based on the strain, the amount of bend or bend direction of the second motor housing assembly member relative to the first motor housing assembly member can be determined.
SIMULTANEOUS ERROR CORRECTION AND INVERSION
In some embodiments, an apparatus and a system, as well as a method and article of manufacture, may operate to parameterize a geological formation in terms of initial earth model parameters, and generate predicted data by simulating a tool response using earth model parameters. Further activity may include determining a difference between calibrated data and the predicted data; and simultaneously adjusting calibration parameters and the earth model parameters such that the difference between them satisfies selected convergence criteria, so that a controlled device can be operated according to at least one of updated calibration parameters, updated calibrated data, or updated earth model parameters. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.
POST-WELL RESERVOIR CHARACTERIZATION USING IMAGE-CONSTRAINED INVERSION
A method for estimating an inverted parameter of a subsurface formation includes measuring a first parameter of the subsurface formation and measuring a second parameter of the subsurface formation. The method further includes defining one or more inversion constraints using the second parameter and inverting with a processor the first parameter to generate the inverted parameter of the subsurface formation using the one or more inversion constraints.
Boring tool control using remote locator
A drilling system performs underground boring using a drill rig and a boring tool which is configured for moving through the ground under control of the drill rig to form an underground bore. A monitoring arrangement, forming part of the system, includes a detection arrangement at the drill rig for monitoring at least one operational parameter to produce a data signal relating to at least one of a utility to be installed in the underground bore, the drill rig and the boring tool. A portable device forms another part of the system for receiving the data signal relating to the operational parameter for use by the portable device. A communication arrangement, for example using telemetry, transfers the data signal from the drill rig to the portable device. The operational parameter may be monitored for the purpose of preventing equipment failure.
TOOLFACE CONTROL WITH PULSE WIDTH MODULATION
In accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure, systems and methods for a toolface control system is disclosed. The system includes, a rotating drill string of a drilling tool, an assembly located within the rotating drill string representing a current toolface of the drilling tool, and a controller configured to use pulse width modulation to adjust a rotational speed of the assembly to maintain the current toolface at a desired toolface.
Downhole Wireless System for Tunneling Arrangements
A wireless data communication system within a tunneling tool used to form subterranean tunnels. The wireless data communication system is useful to provide real time data relating to tunneling and for controlling or adjusting the tunneling process.
GUIDING DRILLING OPERATIONS USING A SUBSURFACE MODEL BASED ON FULL WAVEFORM INVERSION OF SEISMIC-WHILE-DRILLING DATA
System and method for guiding a drill using a subsurface model generated by successive full waveform inversions (FWI) on surface data and seismic-while-drilling (SWD) data. A server receives surface data from at least one surface sensor that records elastic energy radiated from surface seismic source and SWD data from at least one surface or at least one subsurface crosswell sensor (i.e., deployed in a nearby well). The server also receives top-drive measurements. A drillbit source signature estimation is performed, on the SWD data, by the server by blind deconvolution or by using drill string modeling and top-drive measurements. The server then performs FWI on the surface data by using the background subsurface velocity obtained by kinematic analysis of surface seismic data, to obtain an updated approximation of the subsurface velocity. The new approximation along with the drillbit source signature is then used when performing FWI on the SWD data.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CUTTING OF OBJECTS IN A SUBSEA WELL AND SEALING THE PRODUCTION BORE OF SAID WELL
In some embodiments, a system includes a surface processor and a tool drill string having a downhole device including a downhole processor. The surface processor may include a memory storing instructions, and the surface processor may be communicatively coupled to the downhole processor. The surface processor may be configured to execute the instructions to receive one or more first measurements from the downhole device, and determine whether the one or more first measurements satisfy a threshold measurement. Responsive to determining the one or more first measurements satisfy the threshold measurement, the surface processor may electronically modify a weight on bit by a first amount and electronically modify a revolutions per minute of a motor by a second amount.
