Downhole apparatus with removable plugs
A downhole tool includes a casing string with a fluid barrier connected therein defining a lower end of a buoyancy chamber. A plug assembly connected in the casing string defines an upper end of the buoyancy chamber. The plug assembly has an outer case with a rupture disc positioned therein configured to block flow and to burst at a predetermined pressure. The rupture disk is removable from a flow path through the outer case upon the flow of fluid therethrough.
EXPLOSIVE DOWNHOLE TOOLS HAVING IMPROVED WELLBORE CONVEYANCE AND DEBRIS PROPERTIES, METHODS OF USING THE EXPLOSIVE DOWNHOLE TOOLS IN A WELLBORE, AND EXPLOSIVE UNITS FOR EXPLOSIVE COLUMN TOOLS
An explosive downhole tool includes a housing having an upper housing part on one side of a window section and a lower housing part on an opposite side of the window section. An explosive charge is provided within the housing for at least one of cutting and expanding the wall of the tubular. The outer surface of at least one of the upper and lower housing part is rounded so as to be devoid of corners. The rounded surface eliminates the presence of sharp corners that may catch on restrictions or protrusions in a wellbore so that the downhole tool is more easily conveyable within a wellbore. Another explosive downhole tool includes fins extending from the housing. The fins have a height that decreases in a direction away from the housing. The shape of the fins enables the downhole tool to be more easily conveyable within the wellbore.
Downhole tool and well-drilling method
To provide a downhole tool that can maintain a high degradation rate even in high-temperature environments and a method for well drilling using the downhole tool. A downhole tool including: a component containing a reactive metal; and a component containing a degradable resin composition promoting degradation of the reactive metal, the degradable resin composition containing a degradable resin producing an acid by degradation, wherein a molar ratio of a maximum amount of the acid which the degradable resin composition is capable of producing to a content of the reactive metal is 1.0 or higher.
Locating self-setting dissolvable plugs
A magnetic system for determining a position of an untethered dissolvable frac package for use in a hydraulic fracturing or stimulation operation. The system includes an array of magnets operable to produce a magnetic field that is operably associated with a position downhole along the string. A setting tool of the dissolvable frac package is configured to sense the magnetic fields and deploy a dissolvable frac plug at a predetermined position along the wellbore string.
DISSOLVABLE, PROTECTIVE COVERING FOR DOWNHOLE TOOL COMPONENTS
A downhole tool can include: an inner mandrel; at least one component, wherein a portion of the at least one component moves in a direction radially away from the inner mandrel when the downhole tool is set; and a protective covering, wherein the protective covering comprises a dissolvable material, and wherein the protective covering partially surrounds an outer diameter of the at least one component when the downhole tool is run-in. The downhole tool can be introduced into a wellbore. The protective covering can dissolve via chemical reactions of metals, metal alloys, or metal oxides, or by melting of a thermoplastic. The downhole tool can be set after the protective covering has dissolved. The tool can be a packer assembly, bridge plug, frac pack plug, or liner hangers. The at least one component of the downhole tool can be a sealing element, a collet, a split wedge, or a slip.
DOWNHOLE CONFORMABLE SCREEN SYSTEM AND METHOD OF MAKING A CONFORMABLE SCREEN FOR DOWNHOLE USE
A system of a downhole conformable screen system including a tubular, and a screen defined by a plurality of screen segments positioned radially outward of the tubular, each of the plurality of screen segments being positioned perimetrically between two other of the screen segments, the screen being configured to expand radially to engage with an inner surface of a wellbore after the tubular and screen have been positioned within the wellbore. A method of making a conformable screen for downhole use including forming a plurality of screen segments out of a porous foam, and attaching the plurality of screen segments to a tubular to form a screen around the tubular.
VALVE STATUS INDICATOR SYSTEM AND METHOD
A fluid control system includes a fluid control device configured to be connected to at least one of two casing elements in a well, for controlling a fluid flow between a bore of the fluid control device and a zone located outside the casing elements; and a tracer material located within an inner chamber of a body of the fluid control device, the tracer material being uniquely associated with the fluid control device. The fluid control device is configured to release, when activated, the tracer material out of the inner chamber.
Sensing and recording module within an untethered object acting as a pressure differential isolation of well fluid
An untethered sensing object able to sense and record well fluid and wellbore parameters. The untethered sensing object is adapted to perform, in addition, a well fluid isolation with a plugging element previously placed inside the wellbore.
Dissolvable setting tool or hydraulic fracturing operations
A system for deploying an untethered dissolvable frac package for use in a hydraulic fracturing operation includes a dissolvable or degradable frac package with a dissolvable or degradable setting tool. The setting tool of the dissolvable frac package is configured to deploy a dissolvable frac plug at a predetermined position along the wellbore string and dissolve over time in the wellbore.
System to control swab off while running a packer device
Disclosed embodiments include a packer. The packer includes a fluid bypass positioned along a longitudinal axis of the packer. The fluid bypass provides a fluid flow path between a downhole location and an uphole location from the packer. Additionally, the packer includes a sealing element positioned around the fluid bypass that is elastically deformable to expand in a direction radially outward from the longitudinal axis when the sealing element experiences axial compression. The sealing element includes at least one elastomeric seal reinforcer molded into the elastomeric seal.
