The present invention provides a locking device for a waste container that keeps the lid of the container closed when the container is knocked over on its side, as may arise from a sudden jerking or jarring motion, such as by impact with the ground, to prevent spillage of its contents. The locking device allows the lid to open automatically when the waste container is tipped over by a dumping operation. The locking device includes a sliding block slidable between a locked position and an open position, and a pendulum weight detachably attached to a magnet, when detached from the magnet, the pendulum weight blocks the sliding block from sliding to the open position. When attached to the magnet, the pendulum weight allows the sliding block to slide to the open position.

The latch assembly comprises: a frame (70); a latch bolt (14) moveable between a latching position and a retracted position along a horizontal direction; and a latch bolt operating mechanism configured to move the latch bolt from its latching position to its retracted position. The latch bolt moved into its latching position by magnetic attraction. The latch bolt operating mechanism comprises an operation lever (91) and a support lever (92) both of which have a first part pivotally connected to the frame and a second part connected to the latch bolt. The latch bolt is suspended by the operation lever and the support lever and is swingable between its latching position and its retracted position.

The second end is introducible between the stop and the support, and the hook part is arranged to interact with the stop. A lower side of the safety latch is arranged to interact with the support, and includes a transition point, arranged between the first and second ends, at which the lower side bends upwards towards the free second end.

The latch assembly comprises: a frame (70); a latch bolt (14) moveable between a latching position and a retracted position along a horizontal direction; and a latch bolt operating mechanism configured to move the latch bolt from its latching position to its retracted position. The latch bolt moved into its latching position by magnetic attraction. The latch bolt operating mechanism comprises an operation lever (91) and a support lever (92) both of which have a first part pivotally connected to the frame and a second part connected to the latch bolt. The latch bolt is suspended by the operation lever and the support lever and is swingable between its latching position and its retracted position.
