A top drive system for wellbore related activities involving a drilling tubulars string. The system includes a frame structure and a top drive device with one or more top drive motors, a transmission housing, a floating quill system with a hollow vertical floating quill shaft. The top drive device has a thrust bearing housing arranged below the transmission housing and suspended via said first and second vertical frame members from the top frame member. A hollow vertical outer main shaft is suspended from the thrust bearing housing and a hollow vertical inner main shaft is arranged vertically mobile within the outer main shaft. The inner main shaft is connected to the floating quill shaft and has a lower connector end that is configured to be connected to a drilling tubulars string via a threaded connection, so as to allow for transmission of the rotary torque from the one or more top drive motors via the transmission, the floating quill shaft, the inner main shaft, to the threadedly connected drilling tubular string.

The drill head position determination system may further include a sheave sensor operatively coupled to the at least one sheave and configured to determine a position of the drill head based on a measured rotational position of the at least one sheave.

The system pulls the drill string out of the borehole and uses a top drive and pipe wrench to disconnect the individual segments of drill pipe from the drill string. Pipe gripping arms lift the disconnected drill pipe segment away from the rest of the drill string and release it into a nearby pipe rack. The components of the system are collapsible and can nest in one another during transport.

Data providing a status of the power swivel system components is transmitted to a remote device and presented to a user via a GUI.

A rotary latch release mechanism includes axially-aligned upper and lower rotary latch components carried on and rotationally coupled to upper and lower latch assemblies, respectively. The latch release mechanism is movable from an axially-latched position to an axially-unlatched position in response to relative rotation between the upper and lower rotary latch components. The latch release mechanism has a movable land surface that acts in response to relative axial displacement to induce the relative rotation required to release the latch. The latch release mechanism may be configured such that the axial movement of the movable land surface will cause the relative axial movement required to release the latch in combination with the required rotation. Accordingly, the rotary latch mechanism operates in response to externally-controlled axial movement of a movable land surface carried by the latch release mechanism, without requiring externally-induced rotation.

DRILLING MACHINES AND METHODS THEREOF

The present disclosure discloses a drilling machine. The drilling machine may include a base, a mast arranged on the base, an iron roughneck, a drill floor mechanical arm, a top drive arranged on the mast, a pipe racker on a finger board, a power finger board, a power catwalk arranged on the ground, and an elevator arranged on the top drive. The drill machine and a corresponding tripping out and tripping in method may be used to vertically transport a stand between a well center and a region of at least one pipe setback efficiently, which may improve the efficiency of tripping out and tripping in, and reduce the risk of accidents in the well. In addition, the present disclosure provides a corresponding method for offline connecting and disconnecting stands during a drilling operation, which may reduce a preparation time during the drilling, improve the drilling efficiency, and reduce the cost of oilfield development.
