ACOUSTIC DETECTION OF DRILL PIPE CONNECTIONS
A system for determining a location and a diameter of a pipe deployed in a bore includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced acoustic transmitters and a plurality of circumferentially spaced acoustic receivers deployed in a wall of the bore. A processor is configured to identify and process received acoustic waveforms that are reflected by the pipe to compute the location and the diameter of the pipe. The system may include a drill string deployed in a drilling riser.
Drill Pipe With Increased Drill Pipe Body Wall Thickness And Outside Diameter
A tubular member for a drill pipe comprising an elongated tubular body with a first end and a second end, the first and second ends including, respectively, a box tool joint section and a pin tool joint segment, the box tool joint segment being connected to the tubular body with at least a weld neck, wherein the nominal outer diameter of the tubular member is greater than the nominal pipe body outer diameter specified under American Petroleum Institute standard API Specification 5DP for a basis tubular member, and the nominal outer diameter of the tubular member is equal to or less than the weld neck diameter limitation specified under API Specification 5DP for a basis tubular member.

Downhole drilling assembly having a hydraulically actuated clutch and method for use of same
A downhole drilling assembly includes a drill string having an inner fluid passageway. A fluid motor disposed within the drill string has a rotor operable to rotate relative to a stator in response to a circulating fluid received via the inner fluid passageway. A drive shaft and drill bit are operably associated with and operable to rotate with the rotor. A hydraulically actuated clutch disposed within the drill string has a first configuration, wherein a first clutch assembly is disengaged from a second clutch assembly such that the drive shaft and drill bit rotate relative to the drill string and, a second configuration, wherein the first clutch assembly engages the second clutch assembly responsive to hydraulic pressure generated by rotation of the drill string such that the drive shaft and drill bit rotate with the drill string.
Control line protection system
A system including a first tubular with a first fluid passage configured to receive a fluid for use in a mineral extraction system, a second tubular surrounding the first tubular, a protective cover coupled to the second tubular with a shear pin, wherein the second tubular is configured to move the protective cover from a first axial position to a second axial position, and the protective cover is configured to form a first seal around the first fluid passage; and a retainer coupled to the first tubular or the protective cover and configured to couple the protective cover to the first tubular.
MANUAL QUICK CONNECT HUB CLAMPING SYSTEM
Present embodiments of the disclosure are directed to an improved hub clamping system and method used to connect and seal a pair of API hubs. The hub clamping system generally includes a plurality of individually operated clamp units assembled within a single outer retaining ring. The clamp units disposed in the retaining ring may provide a multi-segment clamping arrangement to hold the API hubs together. The clamp units may each include a collet mechanism having a slanted surface shaped to engage one of the pair of hubs, a housing mounted to the outer retaining ring, and a screw device coupled to the collet mechanism via threads and disposed within the housing. The screw device may be rotatable relative to the housing to selectively move the collet mechanism between an activated position and a retracted position relative to the hubs.
TOOL COUPLER WITH SLIDING COUPLING MEMBERS FOR TOP DRIVE
A drive unit of a top drive system includes a drive stem having a plurality of ports from an exterior thereof to an interior thereof. A plurality of sliding coupling members is disposed in the ports. A coupling collar encircles the drive stem and has actuation surfaces and recessed surfaces on an interior thereof, wherein the recessed surfaces align with the ports when the coupling collar is in a first position, and the actuation surfaces align with the ports when the coupling collar is in a second position.
Drilling motor with one-way rotary clutch
A drilling motor assembly can include a housing, a shaft, and a pawl which selectively engages a recess, the pawl having an axis of rotation and a generally planar engagement face which engages a generally planar engagement face of the recess when relative rotation between the housing and the shaft is prevented. The engaged engagement faces can be oblique relative to a radius extending from the axis of rotation to the engaged engagement faces. A method of drilling a wellbore can include flowing a fluid through a drilling motor assembly, thereby rotating a shaft relative to a housing, and rotating the housing, thereby engaging a pawl with a recess and preventing relative rotation between the housing and the shaft, the pawl and recess each having a generally planar engagement face, whereby the engaged engagement faces prevent relative rotation between the shaft and the housing.
Method and apparatus for sealing tubulars
A method of controlling fluid flow between two tubulars includes disposing a sealing member in an annular area between two tubulars, wherein the two tubulars partially overlap; moving the sealing member to a lower position where it is not in contact with one of the tubulars, thereby allowing fluid flow through the annular area; and moving the sealing member to an upper position where it is in contact with both of the tubulars, thereby preventing fluid flow through the annular area.
System for Geosteering and Formation Evaluation Utilizing Near-Bit Sensors
This disclosure provides a downhole drilling system, which comprises a downhole motor, a universal-joint assembly comprising an upper universal joint and a lower universal and a connecting rod connecting the upper universal joint and the lower universal joint, and a measurement sub. The measurement sub is disposed about the connecting rod and the connecting rod extends through the measurement sub in a longitudinal direction thereof.
