Certain embodiments include a system having a first grip configured to couple to a first tubular, a second grip configured to couple to a second tubular, where the first and second tubulars are connected by a threaded connection, and a gear assembly coupling the first and second grips, wherein the gear assembly has a speed ratio greater than 1.

TAILING ARM AND PIPE POSITIONING DEVICE
20170314347 · 2017-11-02 ·

A tailing arm and tubular positioning device with an arm base unit, control module and an arm engaging a hydraulic power unit. A side shift assembly attaches to an opposite end of the arm and fluidly connects to the hydraulic power unit. A lower roller assembly secured to the side shift assembly and fluidly connected to the hydraulic power unit and an upper roller assembly engages the hydraulic power unit. The control module is configured to move upper and lower rollers to support a tubular and maintain contact with the tubular through a range of motion of the tubular, position the upper and lower rollers symmetrically and in snug contact with the tubular, shift the tubular longitudinally with the upper and lower rollers using roller cylinders and rotation of the arm, shift the tubular laterally with the side shifting assembly, and release the tubular.

Robotic pipe handler systems

A tubular handling system can include a bridge disposed in a horizontal orientation above a horizontal storage area, a tubular lift system that can transport a tubular in a horizontal orientation between the horizontal storage area and an intermediate storage location, and a pipe handler, moveably coupled to the bridge, that can transport the tubular between the intermediate storage location and a rig floor. Also provided is a method for handling tubulars that can include operations of delivering or retrieving a tubular in a vertical orientation to or from a rig floor, transporting the tubular between the rig floor and a bridge, rotating the tubular between vertical and horizontal, retrieving or delivering the tubular to an intermediate storage location, and raising or lowering the tubular between the intermediate storage location and a horizontal storage area while maintaining the tubular in the horizontal orientation.

Gripper With Spinning Means

A gripper for gripping and spinning a pipe body includes: a rotatable input shaft; a gripping means for gripping the pipe body; a spinning means for spinning the pipe body while it is being gripped by the gripping means; a coupling means for connecting the rotatable input shaft to the gripping means and to the spinning means and for selectively engaging the gripping means and the spinning means ; and a braking means configured to engage the differential coupling means so as to selectively prevent at least one of the gripping means and the spinning means from being operated upon rotating the rotatable input shaft. The coupling means may comprise a differential coupling.

Drill rod gripping apparatus

A drill rod gripping apparatus to grip and impart rotational motion to a drill rod including a sled axially mounted at a frame and having first and second jaws moveably mounted at the sled to allow a substantially linear lateral movement across the sled to and from one another. A plurality of rod engagers are mounted at each jaw with at least one of the engagers including an abrasive surface formed from a coating to increase the frictional force between the drill rod and the gripping apparatus.

System and method for remote operation of a closed mouth power tong to make up and break out tubing on a well servicing rig

A system and method for mounting a Closed-Mouth Power Tong on a Well Servicing Rig in order is disclosed. The power tong can be operated remotely when making up or breaking out connections on oilfield tubing. The system utilizes an assembly that can lift and lower the tong to the appropriate height as required to engage the threads on the tubing. The assembly is connected to the blowout preventer or wellhead with a quick connect system that is adjustable for various angles so that the tong can be utilized in various positions to run tubing into, or out from, the well center unhindered.

TUBULAR GRIPPING APPARATUS

A tubular gripping apparatus includes a housing having a bore and a plurality of gripping members movable between a gripping position and a release position. The apparatus may also include a shield having a tubular inner body movable relative to an outer body. The tubular inner body is movable between a retracted position, in which the tubular inner body is positioned above the plurality of gripping members, and an extended position, in which the inner body is at least partially positioned interiorly of the plurality of gripping members.

Deck wrench disengage with pipe unscrewed interlock

In accordance with one aspect of the present disclose, an interlock system for a mobile drilling machine. The interlock system has a sensor assembly used to determine a drill string status, an operator interface for receiving a deck wrench disengagement input, and a control module. The control module may be used to receive the deck wrench disengagement input from the operator interface, receive the drill string status from the sensor assembly, determine from the drill string status that a drill string component engaged by the deck wrench is connected to a drill string or a drill head, and disengage the deck wrench from the drill string component engaged by the deck wrench.

Attachment for making up or breaking out pipe

An attachment that is configured for attachment to an arm of a piece of heavy construction equipment. The attachment is configured to rotate a section of pipe during break-out (i.e. disconnection or disassembly) from another section of pipe and/or make-up (i.e. connection or assembly) with another section of pipe. The attachment is configured to break the joint or torque the joint, unthread or thread pipe, and lift the pipe under the power of the heavy construction equipment.
