Pipe Handling For A Drill String At Ground Exit
An exit side pipe handling and vise tool. The tool may be suspended from an arm of a hydraulic machine and rotated and pivoted relative to the arm. The tool comprises two retainer assemblies, two vise assemblies, and a roller assembly each suspended from a linear frame. Each of the retainer assemblies is movable relative to the frame in a direction transverse to a length of the frame. The vise assemblies are in side-by-side configuration to break a connection between adjacent pipe segments. The roller assembly defines rollers having a spiral ramp disposed on an external surface to encourage axial movement of a pipe segment during rotation thereof.
Rotational power slips
A rotational power slips system includes a static base comprising at least one circular opening; a rotating ring disposed within the static base and including a circular outer surface interfacing with the static base; at least one slips wedge disposed within the rotating ring and including a radially inner grip surface for gripping at least one component of a drilling string; and at least one wedge actuator disposed on the rotating ring and rotatably coupled to both the rotating ring and the slips wedge, thereby causing the slips wedge to move while the component of a drilling string is rotating.
THREADED CONNECTION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD
Present embodiments are directed a mineral extraction system comprising a locking clamp configured to be secured to a first tubular member, wherein the locking clamp comprises an outer radial surface having a first geometry and a rotary table adapter. The rotary table adapter comprises a base and an extension extending from the base, wherein the extension defines a recess, the recess comprises an inner radial surface having a second geometry, wherein the first geometry and the second geometry correspond with one another, and the rotary table adapter is configured to be disposed within a rotary table of a drilling rig.
MAINTAINING TORQUE WRENCHES USING A PREDICTIVE MODEL
A method includes generating a model for predicting a remaining service life of a gripping member of a torque wrench based in part on a number of connections of one or more types of tubulars that are made or broken using the torque wrench before slippage of the torque wrench occurs, counting a first number of connections of a first type of tubular that are made using the torque wrench, predicting, using the model, the remaining service life of the gripping member of the torque wrench based in part on the first number of connections of the first type of tubular that were made using the torque wrench, and performing maintenance on the torque wrench based on the remaining service life of the gripping member of the torque wrench that is predicted, before slippage of the torque wrench occurs.
PIPE CONNECTOR
A connector for connecting pipes and for use with power tongs have a die length. The connector includes a body with threaded connection portions at each end of the body on an inside surface of the body. The connector includes a gripping surface defined on an outside surface of the body between the threaded connection portions. The gripping surface is at least as long as the die length. The connector includes a reinforced portion of the body proximate each of the threaded connection portions for increasing resistance to deformation of the body upon being connected with a pipe. The gripping surface and the reinforced portion together facilitate an increase in connection torque of pipes connected with the connector.
Apparatus and method of connecting tubulars
The present disclosure generally relates to a method for making up a tubular joint. The method includes rotating a first tubular relative to a second tubular to engage the first and second tubulars while measuring a torque between the first and second tubulars, calculating a set point of a relative rotational speed between the first and second tubulars using the measured torque, and using the calculated set point with a closed-loop controller to control the relative rotational speed between the first and second tubulars.
Detecting Drill Pipe Connection Joints via Magnetic Flux Leakage
An apparatus and methods for detecting drill pipe connection joints via magnetic flux leakage. An apparatus may include a magnet operable to magnetize a portion of a drill string extending out of a wellbore that extends into a subterranean formation below a drill rig and a sensor operable to facilitate magnetic flux measurements indicative of an amount of magnetic flux that leaked from the drill string along the magnetized portion of the drill string. The apparatus may further comprise a processing device having a processor and a memory storing a computer program code, wherein the processing device is operable to receive the magnetic flux measurements and detect a connection joint between adjacent drill pipes of the drill string based on the magnetic flux measurements.
System and method for offline standbuilding
A drill rig having a drill pipe standbuilding system. The standbuilding system may have one or more offline mouseholes, such as two offline mouseholes, a hoist arranged on a rail system, and an iron roughneck. The rail system may be arranged on the mast, such as above a racking board. The hoist may extend from the rail system, through the racking board, and toward a drill floor of the drill rig. The offline mouseholes, rail system, hoist, and iron roughneck may allow drill pipe stands to be built without interrupting or slowing drilling operations. A method of standbuilding may include arranging a first pipe section in a first mousehole, arranging a second pipe section in a second mousehole, coupling a third pipe section to the second pipe section to form a double stand, and coupling the second pipe section to the first pipe section to form a triple stand.
Power Tong Assembly
A power tong assembly has a power tong and a backup for making up and breaking out of threaded tubular connections in tubulars such as drill pipe. The power tong assembly has an overall geometry, including but not limited to a jaw die shape, which reduces contact forces on the tubular, and on the tong body. Preferably, the dies have teeth which are angled to enhance engagement on the tubular. Crush zones or pockets may be provided on the dies, to permit deformation against hard banding on tubulars. In some embodiments, the tong jaws permit mounting the dies in different longitudinal (vertical) positions. In some embodiments, the fixed jaw within the backup has angled sidewalls which accommodate a broader tubular OD range. A cutout in the power tong cage lower plate permits a thicker tong rotary for a given overall tong assembly height.
Horizontal stand builder and catwalk
A system and method for horizontally building stands of tubulars and transferring them to a rig floor. The system has a horizontal stand builder which assembles double or triple stands of tubulars. A catwalk and V-door are positioned alongside the horizontal stand builder. A skate is able to push either single, double, or triple stands along the catwalk and up the V-door to a position whereby an elevator on the rig can grip the stand and move it onto the rig. For transferring single stands of tubular, there is a carrier at the upper end of the V-door which can grip the single stand and lift it to the position for the elevator to grip it and move it onto the rig.
