A SELECTIVELY ACTIVATABLE DOWNHOLE TOOL
A tool comprises a tool body having a bore, a secondary chamber within the tool body, a flow port between the bore and the secondary chamber; a cover component within the bore moveable between at least two positions along the length of the bore, and a control arrangement connected to control movement of the cover component within the bore. The control arrangement comprises a moveable piston and a guide component, one of which has a track and the other has a protruding element received in the track. In a first position, the cover component covers an entrance to the flow port, so that fluid flowing along the bore may not flow into the flow port. In a second position, the cover component does not cover the entrance to the flow port, so that fluid flowing along the bore may flow through the flow port and into the secondary chamber.
DOWNHOLE CHEMICAL REACTOR AND GAS GENERATOR WITH PASSIVE OR ACTIVE CONTROL
A downhole chemical reactor can be placed in a downhole environment to generate gas in-situ. This gas can pressurize an inner pressure chamber of the downhole chemical reactor to create a pressure-on-demand source or to maintain a constant pressure reservoir, depending on the configuration of a reactor controller coupled to an inlet of the inner pressure chamber. The inner pressure chamber contains one or more desired chemical reactants and the reactor controller operates to permit well fluid to flow from the wellbore and into the inner pressure chamber. The well fluid reacts with the desired chemical reactants and generates one or more gases such as hydrogen or carbon dioxide. The generated gases pressurize the inner pressure chamber and a pressure regulator coupled to the inner pressure chamber maintains a maximum pressurization of the inner pressure chamber. For a constant pressure reservoir, the reactor controller repeats this cycle indefinitely.
PACKER APPARATUS
A packer apparatus is disclosed. Packer apparatus comprises a body configured to be disposed in a wellbore and a deformable packer element disposed on the body. The deformable packer element comprises a deformable metallic outer cover. An actuation apparatus is configured to move relative to the body to deform said deformable packer element outwardly from the body to cause the deformable metallic outer cover to contact the surface of the wellbore or casing in which the apparatus is located. Deactivation of the actuation apparatus causes the deformable packer element and deformable metallic outer cover to return to a retracted condition.
Well string tool and method for using the same
A tool for use within a subterranean well extending from a wellhead to a subterranean location, wherein the wellhead resides at a first temperature and the subterranean well increases in temperature in a direction from the wellhead to the subterranean location, increasing from the first temperature to a higher second temperature, includes a component including a meltable material. The meltable material is configured to have a solid first state while the meltable material is at the first temperature. The meltable material in the first state has one or more mechanical properties sufficient to avoid mechanical failure of the component and is configured to have a second state when the meltable material is at the second temperature. The meltable material in the second state is lacking the one or more mechanical properties necessary to avoid mechanical failure.
Disposable setting tool for wellbore operations
A disposable setting tool includes a housing having a first end, a second end, and an intermediate portion having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a passage. A piston assembly is arranged in the passage. The piston assembly including a first piston portion and a second piston portion that extends axially outwardly of the second end of the housing. The first piston portion includes a first end portion, a second end portion, and an intermediate section having an outer surface portion and an inner surface portion that extends between the first end portion and the second end portion. The inner surface portion defines a pressure passage. An atmospheric chamber is defined between the inner surface of the housing and the outer surface portion of the piston assembly.
Mill to whipstock connector for a window cutting system
A window cutting system includes a whipstock having an outer surface, an inner surface, a recess, and a passage extending through the outer surface and the inner surface in the recess. A window mill is connected to the whipstock. The window mill includes a body having a tip portion, a pressure compartment formed in the tip portion, and an axial passage extending though the tip portion from the pressure compartment. A pin connects the window mill and the whipstock. The pin is arranged in the pressure compartment and extends through the axial passage and the passage into the recess. The pin is axially shiftable relative to the window mill and the whipstock when exposed to pressure in the pressure compartment.
Self metering setting tool having integrated wireline adapter kit functionality
A technique facilitates improved setting of downhole devices, e.g. frac plugs. The technique utilizes a setting tool, e.g. a disposable setting tool, which integrates the functionality of a wireline adapter kit to provide a compact disposable solution for setting downhole devices. The setting tool comprises a self metering system which slows an otherwise violent setting action to a controlled setting sequence. The self metering system enables avoidance of the use of slow burn charges sometimes used in conventional setting tools.
Actuating tool for actuating an auxiliary tool downhole in a wellbore
An actuating tool actuable by degradation of at least a portion of a seal assembly to set an auxiliary tool downhole in an oil and gas wellbore. A system and method for actuating the auxiliary tool downhole in the oil and gas wellbore using the actuating tool by degrading at least a portion of the seal assembly of the actuating tool.
Multi-string section mill
A multi-string section milling tool has a longitudinally extending tubular body with mill carriers carrying hardened cutters that pivotally extend from a mill window in the tubular body by upward movement of a drive plunger. A downwardly biased piston mounted to the upper end of a flow tube is slidably inserted through a stationary thimble below the piston. The lower end of the flow tube is attached to a drive plunger which is pivotally attached to drive yoke links pivotally attached the mill carriers. The piston and thimble creates a pressure chamber in the milling tool. Fluid pressure in the pressure chamber moves the piston, flow tube and drive plunger upward to pivotally extend the drive yoke links and mill carriers radially outward through the mill window. Cessation of fluid pressure in the pressure chamber retracts the mill carriers.
Hydraulic thruster
A hydraulic thruster system for providing an axial force. In one embodiment, the system comprises a pump, a motor for driving the pump, and a hydraulic thruster comprising: a cylinder comprising a plurality of cylinder pistons; a shaft comprising a plurality of shaft pistons; a plurality of first pressure chambers; and a plurality of second pressure chambers, wherein the plurality of shaft pistons are positioned inside the cylinder, between the cylinder pistons to form the plurality of first and a second pressure chambers, wherein the shaft further comprises a first fluid passage connected to the pump and to the first pressure chambers, and a second fluid passage connected to the pump and to the second pressure chambers, and wherein the pump may pump fluid into the first pressure chambers and suction fluid from the second pressure chambers providing an axial force between the shaft and the cylinder.
