PRESSURE BALANCED ULTRA-SHORT DISPOSABLE SETTING TOOL
A setting tool for setting an auxiliary tool in a well, the setting tool including an inner mandrel having an upper section and a lower section, the upper section having an internal chamber suitable for housing a power charge; an outer cylindrical piston enclosing the upper section of the inner mandrel; a slidable ring formed concentrically, and between the inner mandrel and the outer cylindrical piston; and an actuation chamber located between the outer cylindrical piston, the ring, and the inner mandrel. The slidable ring is fixedly attached with a breaking pin to the upper section of the inner mandrel.
Self Venting Setting Tool That Utilizes Wellbore Fluid to Dampen Setting Motion
A setting tool for setting a device within a wellbore. The setting tool includes first and second chambers within a housing. A piston separates the chambers and is moveable within the second chamber. The piston is initially positioned adjacent a first end of the second chamber. The setting tool includes a first aperture in communication with the second chamber. Wellbore fluid may enter the second chamber through the first aperture. As the piston moves towards the second end of the second chamber, wellbore fluid within the second chamber is forced out of the second chamber through the first aperture. Pressure within the first chamber vents from the first chamber through the first aperture when the piston moves past the first aperture within the second chamber. The housing may include a second aperture adjacent to the second end of the second chamber that permits wellbore fluid to enter and exit.
Single use setting tool for actuating a tool in a wellbore
A single use setting tool for actuating a tool in a wellbore includes an inner piston extending through a central bore of an outer sleeve. The inner piston has a seal adapter portion and a piston cavity housing an initiator holder for receiving a push-in detonator. A gas diverter channel is open to and extends from the piston cavity through an annular wall of the piston, to transfer gas pressure to a gas expansion chamber for stroking the outer sleeve. A method of actuating a wellbore tool with a single use setting tool includes inserting an initiator into the initiator holder, attaching a tandem seal adapter to the seal adapter portion of the inner piston, and relaying an electrical signal to a line-in portion of the initiator, to initiate the initiator. The single use setting tool may be used in a wellbore tool string.
Frac Plug with Integral Setting Tool
A system combining a setting tool and a frac plug into one assembly thus producing a much shorter and more reliable assembly. More specifically, a downhole assembly comprising a plug section, which itself comprises a top sub, a bottom sub, a slip, and an elastomeric element. The downhole assembly further comprises a power section comprising a body comprising a power charge and one or more ignitors, a firing head, a shearing pin, and a setting tool piston. Additionally, the downhole assembly comprises a check valve, wherein the check valve is positioned downhole from the power charge and inside the setting tool piston; a mandrel comprising a hydraulic chamber and a ball, wherein the mandrel is positioned inside and adjacent to the setting tool piston and the top sub; and a dog.
Shaped Charge Assembly, Explosive Units, And Methods for Selectively Expanding Wall of a Tubular
A shaped charge assembly for selectively expanding a wall of a tubular includes a housing comprising an outer surface facing away from the housing and an opposing inner surface facing an interior of the housing. First and second explosive units are each symmetrical about an axis of revolution. Each explosive unit includes an explosive material formed adjacent to a backing plate and includes an exterior surface facing and being exposed to the inner surface of the housing. An aperture extends along the axis from one backing plate to the other backing plate. An explosive detonator is positioned along the axis adjacent to, and externally of, the one backing plate. The first and second explosive units comprise a predetermined amount of explosive sufficient to expand, without puncturing, at least a portion of the wall of the tubular into a protrusion extending outward into an annulus adjacent the wall of the tubular.
Directly initiated addressable power charge
A method and apparatus for detonating a power charge in downhole wellbore using a heating element embedded within the energetic material of the power charge.
Compact setting tool
A compact setting tool that sets a packer or bridge plug in a wellbore and then self bleeds the pressure prior to pulling the string out of the wellbore.
DOWNHOLE TOOL WITH A PROPELLANT CHARGE
A method of removing material from a target is described. The method comprises the steps of providing a tool, the tool having at least one propellant source; pressurising the tool to a pressure higher than the environmental pressure; igniting at least one of the propellant source(s) to form a combustion zone; and directing combustion products generated at the combustion zone along at least one tool flow path. The tool flow path(s) is selectively openable or closable, such that upon exiting the tool flow path(s) the combustion products interact with a target, the interaction causing material to be removed from the target.

REVERSE BURN POWER CHARGE FOR A WELLBORE TOOL
A power charge and method for actuating a wellbore tool with a power charge. The power charge may include a first volume containing a first energetic material and a second volume containing a second energetic material positioned within the first energetic material. The second energetic material may be a faster burining material compared to the first energetic material. The wellbore tool may include a power charge cavity, an initiator positioned in an initiator holder adjacent to the power charge within the power charge cavity, and a gas diverter channel for directing to an expansion chamber gas pressure generated by combustion of the power charge, to actuate the wellbore tool. The method may include inserting the initiator into the initatior holder within the power charge cavity and initiating combustion of the first energetic material and the second energetic material.
