Single use setting tool for actuating a tool in a wellbore
A single use setting tool for actuating a tool in a wellbore includes an inner piston extending through a central bore of an outer sleeve. The inner piston has a seal adapter portion and a piston cavity housing an initiator holder for receiving a push-in detonator. A gas diverter channel is open to and extends from the piston cavity through an annular wall of the piston, to transfer gas pressure to a gas expansion chamber for stroking the outer sleeve. A method of actuating a wellbore tool with a single use setting tool includes inserting an initiator into the initiator holder, attaching a tandem seal adapter to the seal adapter portion of the inner piston, and relaying an electrical signal to a line-in portion of the initiator, to initiate the initiator. The single use setting tool may be used in a wellbore tool string.
Frac Plug with Integral Setting Tool
A system combining a setting tool and a frac plug into one assembly thus producing a much shorter and more reliable assembly. More specifically, a downhole assembly comprising a plug section, which itself comprises a top sub, a bottom sub, a slip, and an elastomeric element. The downhole assembly further comprises a power section comprising a body comprising a power charge and one or more ignitors, a firing head, a shearing pin, and a setting tool piston. Additionally, the downhole assembly comprises a check valve, wherein the check valve is positioned downhole from the power charge and inside the setting tool piston; a mandrel comprising a hydraulic chamber and a ball, wherein the mandrel is positioned inside and adjacent to the setting tool piston and the top sub; and a dog.
Resettable Telescoping Plug Retrieving Tool
A plug retrieval tool includes a mandrel lowerable into a wellbore. A retrieval head is coupled to the mandrel for selectively latching onto a plug. A shroud is telescopically coupled to the mandrel about the retrieval head and moveable repeatedly between an extended position below the retrieval head for displacing debris on the plug and a retracted position for moving the retrieval head closer to the plug to latch onto the plug. A resistance mechanism provides a resistance to moving the shroud each time the shroud is moved toward the retracted position
Setting tool
A gas operated setting tool comprising a piston rod and an outer tool assembly having a hollow interior within which the piston rod is disposed coaxially. The outer tool assembly comprises a top cap connected to the cylinder's upper end and a bottom connector connected to the cylinder's lower end. The piston rod comprises an upper section to which a firing head attaches and a lower section to which a setting adapter attaches. The piston section's exterior surface fits within and is sealed against the cylinder's interior surface. The piston rod has a hollow power charge chamber and port holes that open into the bottom connector's upper surface. A shear ring engages a counterpart surface feature to prevents axial movement of the outer tool assembly relative to the piston rod until the power charge has fired and sheared the shear ring.
Linear actuator with hydraulic feed through
Hydraulic fluid is from a hydraulic pump to a tool connected to respective first and second ends of a wellbore linear actuator. The actuator has a double acting cylinder with a cylinder head, a cylinder cap opposite the cylinder head, a piston head, and a piston rod. The piston head separates the cylinder into a first chamber and a second chamber, and the piston rod extends out of the second chamber through the cylinder cap. The double acting cylinder has first and second ends, and the double acting cylinder further includes a feed fluid passage between the first and second ends. The feed fluid passage includes a first fluid line through the piston head and the piston rod, the first chamber, and a second fluid line through the cylinder head.
Viscous damping systems for hydrostatically set downhole tools
A system for activating a downhole tool may include a mandrel, a first piston disposed about the mandrel and defining a piston chamber therebetween, a flow restrictor positioned in the piston chamber and separating the piston chamber into an upper chamber located uphole of the flow restrictor and a lower chamber located downhole of the flow restrictor, and a second piston disposed in the upper chamber. The flow restrictor may define at least one orifice extending axially therethrough and, a damping fluid may reside in the piston chamber downhole from the second piston.
TUBING HANGER RUNNING TOOL SYSTEMS AND METHODS
A hanger running tool configured to set a hanger assembly within a wellhead includes a rotatable tool configured to couple to the hanger assembly via a first threaded interface having a first orientation. The hanger running tool also includes an outer sleeve coupled to the rotatable tool, and the outer sleeve includes one or more slots configured to engage a drive ring coupled to the hanger assembly via a second threaded interface having a second orientation opposite the first orientation. Rotation of the rotatable tool in a first direction is configured to loosen the rotatable tool from the hanger assembly while causing the one or more slots of the outer sleeve to drive the drive ring in the first direction, thereby tightening the drive ring about the hanger assembly and causing the drive ring to drive a lock ring radially-outwardly to engage a corresponding recess of the wellhead.
Hydrostatically actuable downhole piston
A hydrostatically actuable downhole piston apparatus for use in a wellbore, comprising glide spacers disposed in the primary chamber, capable of mitigating the deflection of the piston and other hydrostatic components at elevated wellbore hydrostatic pressures. The disclosed apparatus is suited for, among other applications, the hydrostatic setting of a downhole tool, such as a packer, in a wellbore. A method and system for hydrostatically setting a downhole tool using glide spacers disposed in the primary chamber of the downhole tool.
Downhole force generating tool
The disclosure of this application is directed to a downhole tool comprising a central element/member and a sleeve that is rotatably and orbitally disposed around the central element/member. The sleeve rotates and orbits around the central element/member responsive to fluid flowing through the downhole too. The disclosure is also related to a method of advancing the downhole tool in a well by flowing fluid through the tool.
Auto-bleeding setting tool with oil shut-off valve and method
A setting tool for setting an auxiliary tool in a well, the setting tool including a housing having a floating piston, the floating piston separating the housing into a pressure chamber, located upstream the floating piston, and a hydraulic chamber located downstream the floating piston; an internal plug having an upstream end attached to the floating piston and having a downstream end extending into the hydraulic chamber; and a cover-insert member covering the downstream end of the internal plug. The internal plug has an internal passage that fluidly communicates (1) with an internal passage through the floating piston, at one end, and (2) with a port at the other end, and the port is covered by the cover-insert member.
