Releasable connection mechanism for use within a well
A releasable connection mechanism for use downhole with a tubular member includes a collet, a collet stop, and a ring housing. The collet is configured to engage the tubular member, the collet stop is axially movable with respect to the collet between a disengaged position to not engage the collet and an engaged position to engage the collet, and the ring housing is selectively axially movable with respect to the collet. In the disengaged position, the collet is configured to move with respect to the ring housing to engage the ring housing and prevent the collet from disengaging the tubular member when the collet is tensioned with respect to the tubular member. In the engaged position, the collet is configured to remain axially stationary with respect to the ring housing and disengage the tubular member when the collet is tensioned with respect to the tubular member.
Delivery Tool for Tubular Placement of an Adaptive Seat
A delivery tool creates relative axial movement to retract a retaining sleeve from an adaptive seat so that the adaptive seat can release from the delivery tool and find support in a tubular string. The relative movement is created directly with a power charge acting on a piston attached to the retaining sleeve. Movement of the retaining sleeve releases support dogs that position the delivery tool when releasing the adaptive seat. The adaptive seat is protected for running in with a collapsible ring structure that passes through the adaptive seat opening when the delivery tool is pulled out of the hole. The retaining sleeve is replaced and the power charge is renewed to allow the delivery tool to be used more than once.
Tubing hanger running tool systems and methods
A tubing hanger running tool includes an inner annular body, an outer annular body positioned circumferentially about the inner annular body, and an outer sleeve positioned circumferentially about the outer annular body and configured to move in an axial direction to actuate a hanger-to-wellhead lock ring to set the tubing hanger within the wellhead. The tubing hanger running tool also includes one or more control line adapters, wherein each of the one or more control line adapters are configured to fluidly couple a first passageway in the outer annular body to a second passageway in the inner annular body to provide a continuous control line path through the tubing hanger running tool as the tubing hanger running tool runs and sets the tubing hanger within the wellhead.
Piston Rod
A setting tool that sets a packer or bridge plug in a wellbore using an improved piston rod design.
Tubular wellhead component coupling systems and method
A spool adapter includes an annular spool adapter body, a pressure port disposed on an exterior surface of the adapter body, a piston ring disposed within the spool adapter body, adjacent the pressure port, and a retainer ring disposed within the spool adapter body, axially opposite the pressure port from the piston ring. Pressure applied via the pressure port causes the piston ring and the retainer ring to separate from one another.
Shoulder, shoulder tool, and method of shoulder installation
A shoulder includes a shoulder body having a plurality of J-slots disposed circumferentially about the shoulder body at a first axial end of the shoulder body, a retainer ring disposed about the shoulder body having an exterior threaded surface and an annular lip, a load ring having a threaded interior surface configured to interface with the threaded exterior surface of the retainer ring and a tapered bottom surface, and a lock ring having a tapered bottom surface configured to interface with the tapered bottom surface of the load ring such that when the load ring moves axially toward the lock ring, the lock ring radially expands and when the load ring moves axially away from the lock ring, the lock ring radially contracts.
SETTING TOOL
A gas operated setting tool comprising a piston rod and an outer tool assembly having a hollow interior within which the piston rod is disposed coaxially. The outer tool assembly comprises a top cap connected to the cylinder's upper end and a bottom connector connected to the cylinder's lower end. The piston rod comprises an upper section to which a firing head attaches and a lower section to which a setting adapter attaches. The piston section's exterior surface fits within and is sealed against the cylinder's interior surface. The piston rod has a hollow power charge chamber and port holes that open into the bottom connector's upper surface. A shear ring engages a counterpart surface feature to prevents axial movement of the outer tool assembly relative to the piston rod until the power charge has fired and sheared the shear ring.
Method and apparatus for bi-directionally anchoring a liner in a borehole
A technique facilitates hanging of a liner in a borehole. According to the technique, a liner hanger and a liner may be deployed downhole into a borehole. A wellbore anchoring device of the liner hanger is initially actuated to engage a surrounding surface and to resist downward movement of the liner. Additionally, a hold down anchor is subsequently actuated to resist upward movement of the liner. The hold down anchor may be released via mechanical manipulation of the liner hanger.
Improvements In Or Relating To Well Abandonment And Slot Recovery
A method and apparatus for casing recovery for well abandonment. A string is run-in, the string including a hydraulic jack (18), an anchor (28), a casing spear (20), a downhole flow pulsing device (22) and a pressure drop sub (24). The casing spear grips an upper end of the length of casing to be pulled. The anchor is set in casing of a greater diameter above the length of cut casing. Fluid pumped through the string and through the pressure drop sub will increase fluid pressure at the hydraulic jack to a first fluid pressure (78). Fluid pumped through the downhole flow pulsing device will vary the fluid flow superimposing a cyclic pressure (82) on the first pressure (78), causing oscillation of an inner mandrel (30) of the hydraulic jack. The jack moves the oscillating inner mandrel upwards relative to the anchor to pull the length of casing.
SETTING TOOL ASSEMBLY
A setting tool assembly having an adapter housing configured to couple with a part of a workstring, and an inner housing coupled with the adapter housing. A trigger device is coupled with a movable piston. During run-in, the piston is in a first position. Upon activation, the trigger device undergoes an altering event whereby the piston moves to a second position as a result of a pressure acting thereon.
