A setting tool for setting an auxiliary tool in a well includes a housing having a floating piston that separates a pressure chamber from a hydraulic chamber; and a plug that is removably located in a through passage of the floating piston. The through passage fluidly connects the pressure chamber to the hydraulic chamber, and the plug prevents a fluid to move from the pressure chamber to the hydraulic chamber or from the hydraulic chamber to the pressure chamber when attached to the floating piston.

A setting tool for setting an auxiliary tool in a well, the setting tool including a housing having a floating piston, the floating piston separating the housing into a pressure chamber, located upstream the floating piston, and a hydraulic chamber located downstream the floating piston; an internal plug having an upstream end attached to the floating piston and having a downstream end extending into the hydraulic chamber; and a cover-insert member covering the downstream end of the internal plug. The internal plug has an internal passage that fluidly communicates (1) with an internal passage through the floating piston, at one end, and (2) with a port at the other end, and the port is covered by the cover-insert member.

Method of using a downhole force generating tool

The disclosure of this application is directed to a downhole tool comprising a central element/member and a sleeve that is rotatably and orbitally disposed around the central element/member. The sleeve rotates and orbits around the central element/member responsive to fluid flowing through the downhole too. The disclosure is also related to a method of advancing the downhole tool in a well by flowing fluid through the tool.

Downhole stroking tool

A downhole stroking tool (1) comprising a housing (2), a first chamber (3), a first tool part (4) comprising a pump unit (5) providing pressurized fluid to the chamber, a shaft (6) penetrating the chamber, and a first piston (7) dividing the first chamber into a first chamber section (8, 8a) and a second chamber section (9, 9b). The piston is connected to or forms part of the housing which forms part of a second tool part (10) and is slidable in relation to the shaft so that the housing moves in relation to the shaft, the shaft being stationary in relation to the pump unit during pressurization of the first or the second chamber section, thereby generating a pressure on the piston, wherein the shaft is fixedly connected with the first tool part, and wherein the housing is slidable in relation to the first tool part and overlaps the first tool part.

Viscous damping systems for hydrostatically set downhole tools

A system for activating a downhole tool may include a mandrel, a first piston disposed about the mandrel and defining a piston chamber therebetween, a flow restrictor positioned in the piston chamber and separating the piston chamber into an upper chamber located uphole of the flow restrictor and a lower chamber located downhole of the flow restrictor, and a second piston disposed in the upper chamber. The flow restrictor may define at least one orifice extending axially therethrough and, a damping fluid may reside in the piston chamber downhole from the second piston.

Downhole Interventionless Tools, Systems, and Methods for Setting Packers

Hydraulic setting tools, packer setting systems, and methods thereof are provided. The hydraulic setting tool includes a mandrel containing a main flow path, a piston housing surrounding at least a portion of the mandrel, and a piston disposed between the piston housing and the mandrel. A cavity is defined at least partially between the piston, the piston housing, and the mandrel. The tool also includes a port passing through the mandrel and configured to provide fluid communication between the main flow path and of the cavity, and an isolation sleeve located within the mandrel and movable along the main flow path between a closed position and an opened position to control the fluid communication between the main flow path and the cavity via the port. A remotely activated valve is located downstream from the isolation sleeve along the main flow path and controls the fluid passing therethrough.

A gripper mechanism for a downhole tool is disclosed that includes an eccentric linkage mechanism. In operation, an axial force generated by a power section of the gripper expands the linkage mechanism, which applies a radial force to the interior surface of a wellbore or passage. A sliding portion allows the gripper to slide along a surface of the formation in response to the radial force applied to the interior surface of the wellbore or passage.

HYDRAULICALLY ACTIVATED SETTING TOOL AND METHOD

A hydraulically activated setting tool for setting an auxiliary tool in a well, the setting tool including a housing that prevents a well fluid from entering inside the housing; a floating piston placed inside the housing and closing an end of a pressure chamber; an attached piston placed inside the housing and configured to actuate the auxiliary tool; a fluid chamber located between the floating piston and the attached piston, wherein the fluid chamber holds a fluid; and a communication element configured to establish a fluid communication between an outside and an inside of the housing. The fluid communication makes a well fluid in the well to directly act on the floating piston.
