METHOD FOR PRODUCING TOUGHENED ZIRCONIA MATERIALS FOR PROSTHESES

A disclosure is provided for methods to prepare high-strength and high-toughness partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) materials by incorporating a starting ceramic powder in which the stabilizing oxide agent is pre-alloyed with the zirconia material powder. The ceramic powder is pre-stabilized so there is little or no remaining free stabilizing oxide, thereby resulting in an improved material that is more convenient to process using conventional ceramic processing techniques.

Ceramic particle composite material

To provide a ceramic particle separable composite material having a calcium phosphate sintered body particle with which bioaffinity reduction and solubility change are suppressed as much as possible and which has a smaller particle diameter. A ceramic particle separable composite material comprising a ceramic particle and a substrate, wherein: the ceramic particle and the substrate are chemically bonded to each other, or the ceramic particle physically adheres to or is embedded in the substrate; the ceramic particle has a particle diameter within a range of 10 nm to 700 nm; the ceramic particle is a calcium phosphate sintered body particle; and the ceramic particle contains no calcium carbonate.

Biocompatible electromechanical connection for ceramic substrate electronics for biomedical implant

A biocompatible electrical connection includes: a substrate; a ferrule having a concentric flange at a first end of the ferrule; a first adhesive; and a second adhesive. The substrate includes a hole having a diameter that is a specified amount larger than an outside diameter of the ferrule forming an annular space between the hole and the ferrule, the first adhesive adheres a first surface of the concentric flange of the ferrule to a first surface of the substrate, and the second adhesive fills the annular space between the hole and the ferrule.

BIOCOMPATIBLE ELECTROMECHANICAL CONNECTION FOR CERAMIC SUBSTRATE ELECTRONICS FOR BIOMEDICAL IMPLANT

A biocompatible electrical connection includes a substrate; a ferrule having a concentric flange at a first end of the ferrule; a first adhesive; and a second adhesive. The first adhesive adheres a first surface of the concentric flange of the ferrule to a surface of the substrate. The second adhesive fills an annular space between a hole in the substrate and the ferrule. The first adhesive or the second adhesive forms a conductive path on the surface of the substrate between the ferrule and a circuit pattern on the substrate.

Shunt for draining ocular fluid

A shunt for draining ocular fluid of one embodiment includes a tubular body formed of a mesh material including bioactive glass fiber and collagen, the tubular body including an implantation member and a conduit through the implantation member. The implantation member and the conduit are formed integrally. Other embodiments are also contemplated.

A glass, glass-ceramic, or ceramic bead is described, with an internal porous scaffold microstructure that is surrounded by an amorphous shield. The shield serves to protect the internal porous microstructure of the shield while increasing the overall strength of the porous microstructure and improve the flowability of the beads either by themselves or in devices such as biologically degradable putty that would be used in bone or soft tissue augmentation or regeneration. The open porosity present inside the bead will allow for enhanced degradability in-vivo as compared to solid particles or spheres and also promote the growth of tissues including but not limited to all types of bone, soft tissue, blood vessels, and nerves.
