In another embodiment, a transport hose has at least one floatable-material thruster along its length, comprised of at least one nozzle, which provides pressurized fluid (e.g., air or water) in the direction of the flow of the harvested floatable material by positive pressure induction. A method is disclosed whereby the floatable material harvester is used to harvest an absorbent material (e.g., wood chips, straw, perlite, zeolite, polypropylene mesh, titanate nanofibres) that has absorbed a pollutant (e.g., oil, solvent, radioactive isotopes) from a beach or in water.

A skimmer assembly separating oil sticking to the surface of rocks at a shore, and absorbing and recovering an oil spill at the shore is installed at the front of the four-wheel vehicle. The skimmer assembly includes a rotary skimmer having a rotary roller separating oil, and a vacuum suction skimmer suctioning oil floating on a water surface. The rotary skimmer and the vacuum suction skimmer may be selectively or simultaneously used, if necessary.

A skimmer apparatus is provided to separate a less dense upper liquid layer from on top of a denser lower liquid layer. The skimmer apparatus includes a skimmer vessel at least partially submerged within a fluid and preferentially receive the less dense fluid. A first conduit is located within the skimmer vessel by a plurality of support arms. The plurality of support arms affixes the first conduit's vertical and radial location within skimmer vessel. In use, the skimmer height is set to collect the less dense fluid into the skimmer vessel. A lower end of the first conduit is in fluid communication with the inside of the skimmer vessel and the collected fluid therein. An upper end of the first conduit is configured for being suctioned thereby withdrawing fluid from the skimmer vessel.

SORBENT-BASED OIL SKIMMER AND METHODS OF USE

A sorbent-based oil skimmer is configured to collect oil from an oil layer and passively deposit the oil in an encasing, where the oil can be continuously or periodically removed. The oil skimmer includes an encasing and a sponge that is partially enclosed within the encasing. The sponge has a top sheet in contact with the oil layer and a shell connected to the top sheet, where the shell extends into the encasing. Oil collected by the top sheet is conveyed through the shell, where it is deposited into the encasing under the force of gravity. In some applications, the sponge is manufactured from a silicone-based polymer that has been impregnated with carbonaceous material. The skimmer may optionally include counterweights, ballast tanks, buoyancy adjustment systems and propulsion modules.

A floating liquid intake for a liquid suction removal system, the liquid intake comprising housing defining an internal cavity. The housing has a hollow and buoyant annular body, an upper cover and a lower cover. The internal cavity is formed between the upper and lower covers. A substantially annular inlet is formed in the annular body for ingress of liquid into the cavity. The annular body has a buoyancy sufficient for the liquid intake to float in a liquid with the annular inlet submerged below the surface of the liquid in which the liquid intake is floating. A pipe extends into the cavity and the pipe includes an inlet that in use is open below the surface of the liquid within the cavity. The pipe extends outside of the cavity for connection to a liquid suction removal system.
