Anti-Microbial Metal Coatings for Filters
20220305444 · 2022-09-29 ·

An anti-microbial metal coating may be applied to filter membranes for use in actively depressing microbial viability in filtration applications. The anti-microbial metal coating may be applied to substrates that are considered to be sensitive to damage by conventional metal coating techniques or resistant to metal bonding. The coating may be applied from a salt absorbed to the substrate in solution, converted to a reducible form with a conversion agent, and reduced to active metal format through a low temperature plasma treatment.

WOUND HEALING COMPOSITIONS INVOLVING MEDICINAL HONEY, MINERAL IONS AND METHYLGLYOXAL, AND METHODS OF USE
20170216369 · 2017-08-03 ·

The invention provides compositions based on either medicinal honey containing broad spectrum antibacterial activities of peroxide, polyphenols and methylglyoxal, or an effective amount of an active anti-inflammatory ingredient of mineral solids fortified with methylglyoxal antibacterial activity, or a mixture of both for the treatment of wounds; and methods of treating a wound, comprising contacting a wound with any one of the above compositions or a wound dressing containing any one of the above compositions.

ULTRAHIGH DUCTILITY, NOVEL Mg-Li BASED ALLOYS FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS

The invention relates to compositions including magnesium-lithium alloys containing various alloying elements suitable for medical implant devices. The devices may be constructed of the compositions or have applied thereto a coating formed therefrom. Within the structure of the magnesium-lithium alloy, there is a co-existence of alpha and beta phases. The invention also relates to methods of preparing the magnesium-lithium alloys and articles, such as medical implant devices, for use in medical applications, such as but not limited to, orthopedic, dental, craniofacial and cardiovascular surgery.

BIORESORBABLE-MAGNESIUM COMPOSITE
20170319749 · 2017-11-09 ·

The invention relates to biocomposites comprising a polymeric matrix and a magnesium filler such as a water soluble magnesium salt. The use of elemental magnesium or magnesium alloy in the biocomposite is minimized and preferably avoided. The magnesium biocomposites can be used as bone implants.

Regeneration of antimicrobial coatings containing metal derivatives upon exposure to vapor-phase hydrogen peroxide

A regenerable antimicrobial coating with long-lasting efficacy for use in medical applications including implants, medical instruments or devices, and hospital equipment is disclosed. The regenerable antimicrobial coating is derived from a polymer doped with a metal derivative which has been exposed to vapor-phase hydrogen peroxide, wherein hydrogen peroxide is sequestered in or on the doped polymer.

Process for the Production of Storable Implants with an Ultrahydrophilic Surface
20170258969 · 2017-09-14 ·

The present invention concerns a process for the production of implants with an ultrahydrophilic surface as well as the implants produced in that way and also processes for the production of loaded, so-called bioactive implant surfaces of metallic or ceramic materials, which are used for implants such as artificial bones, joints, dental implants or also very small implants, for example what are referred to as stents, as well as implants which are further produced in accordance with the processes and which as so-called “delivery devices” allow controlled liberation, for example by way of dissociation, of the bioactive molecules from the implant materials.

WOUND DRESSING COMPRISING AN ANTIMICROBIAL COMPOSITION

Methods, processes and compositions are provided for improved wound dressings comprising an antimicrobial composition. The wound dressings maintain conformability and strength, as well as antimicrobial performance, upon use after storage.

GLYCEROL AND SODIUM PENTABORATE BASED FORMULATION PREVENTING POSTOPERATIVE ADHESIONS

A glycerol and sodium pentaborate based formulation developed for preventing postoperative adhesions occurring between manipulated tissues and organs is provided. An objective of the glycerol and sodium pentaborate based formulation is to provide a formulation comprising a mixture of glycerol, wherein the glycerol is one of the most abundant biomolecules in a human body, and sodium pentaborate, wherein the sodium pentaborate is known to have positive effects on a wound healing, with a purpose of preventing the postoperative adhesions.
