Described herein are building panels and surface covering systems useful for spaces requiring acoustic control and design flexibility, and methods to prepare the same. Such building panels and surface covering systems comprise an building panel having a first major surface opposite a second major surface and a side surface extending there-between, the acoustic building panel comprising a body having an upper surface opposite a lower surface and side surfaces extending there-between; backing having a first side opposite a second side and comprising denim web and a low-melt polyester bicomponent fiber; wherein the first side of the denim web backing is in contact with the upper surface of the body; and wherein the denim web backing has a web basis weight from about 1150 to about 1350 g/m.sup.2. In certain embodiments, building panels and surface covering systems have superior fire resistant qualities.

The present disclosure relates generally to cladding, for example, suitable for use covering the exterior surface of a building. The present disclosure relates more particularly to a siding panel including a light source. The siding panel includes a panel body having a length extending from a first end to a second end, a width extending from a first edge to a second edge, a front face, and a rear face. A first lock extends along the first edge of the panel body and a second lock extending along the second edge of the panel body. A fastening strip is coupled to the first lock. A light source extending along the length of the panel body is secured to the panel body so as to provide light from the front face of the panel body.

The insulated panel assembly comprises a cover panel, a first insulation layer, and at least one additional insulation layer, wherein the at least one additional insulation layer has a higher R-value than the first insulation layer. The first insulation layer is secured to the cover panel. The first insulation layer further forms at least one recessed portion. The at least one additional insulation layer is positioned in the at least one recessed portion of the first insulation layer. Examples of the at least one additional insulation layer may include vacuum insulated panels and modified atmosphere insulation panels.

Disclosed herein is a panel system for covering a building wall. The panel system includes at least one panel assembly. Each panel assembly includes a panel having a front panel wall, a side panel wall, and a back mounting flange overhanging the front panel wall. Each panel also includes at least one perimeter extrusion. Each perimeter extrusion includes a panel engaging portion having a panel slot shaped to receive the back mounting flange of the panel, and a connector engaging portion having a connector slot. The panel system also includes at least one connector extrusion for mounting the panel assembly to the building wall. Each connector extrusion includes a connector base mountable to the building wall, and at least one connector flange shaped to fit in the connector slot of the perimeter extrusion.
