Removable manifold for a medical/surgical waste collection unit

A manifold apparatus and method of opening a valve in a medical/surgical waste collection unit. The manifold includes a base at a proximal end with the base defining an opening off center from an axis of the manifold. The manifold further includes two arcuately spaced tabs, each subtending arcs having different arcuate lengths. The manifold is positioned such that the tabs mate with at least two slots of a lock ring of the waste collection unit so as to cause the opening of the manifold to be, upon insertion into a bore of the waste collection unit, in a specific rotational alignment in the bore. The manifold is rotated within the bore to cause a valve disk to move between a first position in which the valve disk blocks fluid flow through the receiver and a second position in which the valve disk allows fluid flow through the receiver.

A medical system includes a medical instrument including an irrigation and aspiration channel to carry irrigation fluid to, and remove aspirated matter from, a distal end of the medical instrument, a reservoir to store the irrigation fluid, a receptacle to collect the aspirated matter, and a vane pump including a pump housing having an inner surface around a pumping chamber, the pump housing including irrigation inlet and outlet ports coupled to the pumping chamber and respectively connected to the reservoir and the irrigation channel, and aspiration inlet and outlet ports coupled to the pumping chamber and respectively connected to the aspiration channel and the receptacle, and wherein the vane pump is configured to simultaneously pump via the pumping chamber, at substantially the same flow rate, the irrigation fluid from the reservoir to the distal end and the aspirated matter from the distal end to the receptacle.

Blood filtering component, apparatus, and method

An apparatus including a hollow body, an inlet fluidly coupled to the hollow body, a piston slidably engaged within the hollow body, and a filter module arranged within the hollow body between the inlet and piston. The piston and hollow body cooperatively generate a negative pressure, relative to ambient, within the hollow body during distal piston translation from a first position to a second position, thereby drawing a fluid, such as blood, through the filter module into the hollow body. The piston and hollow body cooperatively generate a positive pressure, relative to ambient, within the hollow body during piston translation from the second position to the first position to egress the filtered fluid from the hollow body. The filter module may include a filter housing, a filter medium disposed within the housing, and a body valve configured to seal an open distal face of the filter housing.

Bone Fragment Collector And Processor

A device (10) for collecting and processing bone fragments is disclosed. The device comprises a chamber member (12), a press member (14), an intake port (16), and a vacuum port (18). A compression surface (20) and a filter support surface (22) configured to support a filter are defined by said chamber and/or press member. The intake port is on the chamber and/or press member and is configured to receive a composition comprising bone fragments. The vacuum port is on the chamber and/or press member. The chamber member and the press member are rotationally coupled with one another. The composition is acquired through the intake port and collected between the compression surface and the filter support surface. The application of rotational force to the chamber and/or press member in a first direction moves the compression surface and the filter support surface together to compress the composition therebetween to compact, and further remove filtrate from the composition.

Apparatus and methods for receiving discharged urine

A system suitable for collecting and transporting urine away from the body of a person or animal may include an assembly having a fluid impermeable casing, a fluid permeable membrane, and a fluid permeable support. A reservoir is defined by the fluid permeable support. The fluid permeable membrane can define a cavity. The casing can define an opening such that the cavity is accessible via the opening. The assembly can also include an outlet in fluidic communication with the reservoir. The assembly can be arranged such that a user's penis can be disposed through the opening with the urethral opening disposed within the cavity and such that a fluid can flow into the body from the urethral opening of the user's penis, collect in the reservoir, and flow out of the outlet.
