Large intestine contents' diagnosis and acoustic characterization
Systems, kits and methods are provided, which analyze the large intestine content and utilize acoustic signals detected during delivery of water into the large intestine and drained large intestine contents to derive large intestine characteristics such as microbiotal analysis. Systems may include a water delivery unit including a water supply and a nozzle connected thereto, configured to introduce water controllably into a patient's large intestine, and an analysis unit that provides information about the drained contents using optical examination or biological assays. The information may be related to acoustic analysis of signals from acoustic sensors that are attachable to a patient's abdomen. A variety of sensor configurations, positioning options, analysis strategies and large intestine characteristics are presented.
Device and method for treating osteonecrosis
The present invention includes a method and devices for treating osteonecrosis in, e.g., children, adolescents, and adults comprising: identifying a subject in need of treatment for osteonecrosis; drilling two or more holes into a bone in need of treatment for osteonecrosis; inserting two or more needles or cannulas into the holes in the bone; washing an interior of the bone with a washing fluid introduced through one or more of the needles or cannulas inserted into the bone; and after washing the interior of the bone introducing one or more bone growth promoting materials or cells into the bone.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SURGICAL WOUND IRRIGATION
A system irrigating a surgical wound. The system includes a fluid container that includes a first compartment and a second compartment, the first compartment being adapted to retain a first fluid on a first side of a divider and the second compartment being adapted to retain a second fluid on a second side of the divider. The system also includes a fluid charging portion adapted to receive a portion of the first fluid and a portion of the second fluid, wherein the portion of the first fluid reacts with the portion of the second fluid to form a charged compound in the fluid charging portion. The system also includes an irrigator adapted to draw the portion of the first fluid and the portion of the second fluid into the fluid charging portion and to irrigate the surgical wound with the charged compound.
DETECTION OF BUBBLES IN IRRIGATION FLUID
A method, including ejecting irrigation fluid from a distal end of a probe so as to irrigate tissue, and receiving, over a period of time, initial signals indicative of respective temperatures of the distal end, from a temperature sensor in the distal end. The method also includes formulating from the initial signals a temperature range between upper and lower temperature thresholds and, when a further signal from the temperature sensor, received subsequent to the period of time, is indicative of a further temperature above the upper temperature threshold, raising an alarm that a bubble is present in the irrigation fluid.
Compositions for Fecal Floral Transplantation and Methods for Making and Using Them and Devices for Delivering Them
In alternative embodiments, the invention provides compositions, e.g., formulations, used for gastric, gastrointestinal and/or colonic treatments or lavage, e.g., orthostatic lavage, e.g., for inducing the purgation (e.g., cleansing) of a gastrointestinal (GI) tract, including a colon; and methods for making and using them. In alternative embodiments, compositions and methods of the invention are used for the stabilization, amelioration, treatment and/or prevention of constipation, for the treatment of abdominal pain, particularly non-specific abdominal pain, and diarrhea, including diarrhea caused by a drug side effect, a psychological condition, a disease or a condition such as Crohn's Disease, a poison, a toxin or an infection, e.g., a toxin-mediated travelers diarrhea, or C. difficile or the pseudo-membranous colitis associated with this infection. In alternative embodiments, the invention provides pharmaceuticals and products (articles) of manufacture for delivering these compositions and formulations to an individual, e.g., a human or an animal. The invention also provides devices for delivering a fecal material to a patient.
System for flushing a pericardial cavity
The invention provides a flushing system (1) configured to flush the pericardial cavity (PC) of a patient, wherein the system comprises: an infusion liquid outlet (4) to connect a first tube(20) having an infusion liquid lumen to guide a flow of infusion liquid from the system to the pericardial cavity, and an effusion liquid inlet (6) to connect to a second tube (21) having an effusion liquid lumen to guide the effusion liquid flow from the pericardial cavity to the system, a flow rate control system to control the flow rate of the infusion liquid flow at the infusion liquid outlet (4) on the basis of multiple sensor signals, wherein the flow rate control system comprises: a control unit (5) to provide a control signal on the basis of the sensor signals, and a pump device (3) to pump infusion liquid to the infusion liquid outlet (4) at an infusion liquid flow rate, wherein the infusion liquid flow rate is adjustable by the control signal of the control unit (5) and wherein the sensor signals registered by the control unit (5) comprise: an infusion liquid signal representative for the infusion liquid flow to the pericardial cavity, an effusion liquid signal representative for the effusion liquid flow rate from the pericardial cavity, a blood volume signal generated by a hematocrit sensor (12) representative for a blood loss flow rate in the effusion liquid from the pericardial cavity, and a pressure control signal representative for the pressure in the pericardial cavity generated by a pressure sensor positioned inside or in connection with the first tube (20), the second tube (21) or the pericardial cavity. The invention also provides a method of monitoring the blood loss volume or flow rate from the pericardium based on multiple sensor signals as well as, a method of treatment of postoperative cardiac patients in order to reduce the risk of cardiac tamponade, reduce post-operative blood loss and reduce the accumulation of blood and clots in the pericardial cavity, wherein the pericardial cavity of the patient is flushed with a flushing system according to the invention.
