Tall flange rubber adapter
11486220 · 2022-11-01 · ·

The tall flange rubber adapter attaches to the inner barrel of a rotating head assembly. A rubber attaches to the tall flange rubber adapter. The rubber secured to the rubber adapter also rotates with the inner barrel thus maintaining the seal with the drill string to divert the drilling fluid from the well to the outlet flange. Fasteners install upward into the adapter and the inner barrel to secure the rubber adapter with the inner barrel. The increased height of the rubber adapter provides additional surface for the fastener to contact. The increased contact of the fastener with the tall flange maintains the fastener within the rubber adapter and the inner barrel to limit fasteners from falling downhole into the drilling area.

SEALING ELEMENT AND ASSEMBLY

A sealing element for a rotating control device includes an elastomeric body having a central bore for sealing against a pipe passing therethrough. The elastomeric body has an upper portion which is internally reinforced with a frame and a lower portion formed with a plurality of protrusions. The radial protrusions provide columnar support to the lower portion permitting the lower portion to resist centrifugal and frictional forces against the lower portion during drilling and other operations. The sealing element may be used to form an assembly with reusable parts for connecting the sealing element to a mandrel of a rotating control device.

Annular Pressure Control Ram Diverter

Disclosed herein are various embodiments of an Annular Pressure Control Ram Diverter designed to be positioned below the conventional blowout preventer stack, and which will be activated during near balanced drilling operations to seal the annulus between the drill pipe and the casing. Returned drilling fluid and produced fluids are diverted up the annulus between the casing and intermediate casing and through a well head located below an all-inclusive BOP stack. The Annular Pressure Control Ram Diverter employs hydraulic rams to compress a flexible seal around the drill pipe. Some embodiments have an elliptical internal cavity which ensures that the elliptical seal elements cannot rotate. Other embodiments use ridges and grooves on the seal elements and housing to prevent rotation of the seal elements. Doors are provided on each side of the Annular Pressure Control Ram Diverter to permit changing of the seal elements.

Rotating and reciprocating swivel apparatus and method

What is provided is a method and apparatus wherein a rotating and reciprocating swivel of adjustable stroke length and shearable by ram blow out preventers can be detachably connected to an annular blowout preventer thereby separating the lower wellbore from the riser. In one embodiment the mandrel of the swivel extends through a sleeve/housing. The sleeve/housing has a wiping arrangement of improved configuration that wipes debris from the mandrel, preventing entry of the debris into the sleeve/housing. Ports enable discharge of the removed debris from the area of the sleeve/housing.

Deployment tool and deployment tool assembly

A deployment tool that can be used on land, jack-up and floating drilling rigs. The tools is installed around a drillpipe tool joint making it independent of the drill string load path as well as independent of the drill pipe thread and drill pipe size. It is designed for the largest commonly used drillpipe size, so has a single outer dimeter configuration that can be adapted from the largest drillpipe to the smallest in use with simple mechanical adapters. Thus, one main tool and a set of adapters is all that is required. The tool may be used in the deployment of RCDs, for example in the landing of an RCD bearing assembly on an RCD housing, or in the deployment of tubing hangers, lining hangers, casing hangers or other or any other temporary completion tool.

Rotating control device with flexible sleeve

A rotating control device (RCD) for use in pressurized drilling operations. The RCD having a non-rotating RCD housing enclosing an elongate passage, a tubular RCD mandrel extending along the elongate passage of the RCD housing, wherein the RCD mandrel has a longitudinal axis and is configured in use to rotate relative to the RCD housing about the longitudinal axis, and a stripper element which is mounted on an end of the RCD mandrel and which is configured to seal against and rotate with a tubular drill pipe extending along the elongate passage of the RCD housing, wherein the stripper element is secured to the end of the RCD mandrel by a flexible sleeve which is more flexible than the stripper element.

Rotating head with bypass circuit
11598172 · 2023-03-07 · ·

A rotating head assembly includes a body, an implement, a clamp assembly, a drive member, a hydraulic motor, and a bypass circuit. The drive member is threadingly connected to a first clamp member and a second clamp member. The hydraulic motor is connected to the drive member to cause the drive member to rotate in a selected direction. An inlet of the bypass circuit is in fluid communication with an inlet of the hydraulic motor to receive a portion of the pressurized hydraulic fluid passing to the hydraulic motor. An outlet of the bypass circuit is in fluid communication with the outlet of the hydraulic motor. At least one bypass valve is interposed between the inlet of the bypass circuit and the outlet of the bypass circuit. The bypass valve has an actuator positioned adjacent one of the first clamp member and the second clamp.

Rod Lock Out Clamp

A rod lock out clamp is disclosed. The lock out clamp includes a housing having a central bore for receiving a rod in spaced relation therethrough and clamp members in the housing for grippingly and frictionally engaging the rod in the bore. At least one of the clamp members has an inner end and a recess in the inner end, the recess having a profile with an arcuate portion having a radius of curvature that reduces from a maximum radius to a minimum radius. Manipulating means are coupled to the housing and the clamp members for moving the clamp members between a rod gripping position and a retracted position.

Detecting drill pipe connection joints via magnetic flux leakage

An apparatus and methods for detecting drill pipe connection joints via magnetic flux leakage. An apparatus may include a magnet operable to magnetize a portion of a drill string extending out of a wellbore that extends into a subterranean formation below a drill rig and a sensor operable to facilitate magnetic flux measurements indicative of an amount of magnetic flux that leaked from the drill string along the magnetized portion of the drill string. The apparatus may further comprise a processing device having a processor and a memory storing a computer program code, wherein the processing device is operable to receive the magnetic flux measurements and detect a connection joint between adjacent drill pipes of the drill string based on the magnetic flux measurements.

Cross BOP swivel joint for string rotation during well control events
11661802 · 2023-05-30 · ·

A cross BOP swivel joint for crossing over a blowout preventer of a drilling apparatus includes a swivel housing, an internal pipe received through the swivel housing. The internal pipe includes an upper loading shoulder and a lower loading shoulder. The cross BOP swivel joint includes an upper journal bearing, lower journal bearing, and at least one central bearing between the swivel housing and the internal pipe. The central bearings are axially disposed between the journal bearings. When engaged, the BOP contacts the outer surface of the swivel housing of the cross BOP swivel joint. The journal bearings allow the internal pipe to rotate relative to the swivel housing when the BOP is engaged with the swivel housing. This allows rotation of the drill string during well control events. The central bearing provides radial support to the swivel housing to reduce inward deflection of the swivel housing.
