Foamed glass composite material and a method for producing the same
A method of making a roadbed, including paving an area with foamed glass bodies to define a bed and covering the bed with a layer of cementitious material to define a composite bed. The composite bed is at least 85 percent foamed glass bodies. The composite bed has a cementitious surface.
Spray paving coating and method
A paving mixture for application to a surface and a method for the same. The mixture comprises a binding material layer applied to the surface to form a base layer on the surface, and an aggregate material layer applied on top of the binding material layer, wherein the binding material layer comprises at least 15% of the bitumen in the paving mixture by weight, the aggregate material layer contains an asphalt mixture that provides a road surface, and the aggregate material layer and the binding material layer are combined on the surface within 30 seconds of application of the binding material layer.
Sustainably constructed pavement, and methods and apparatus for constructing the same
A sustainable pavement is constructed by creating a construction structure for a hot mix asphalt (HMA) pavement according to a pavement project; calculating a greenhouse gas (GHG) emission of the HMA pavement; performing a sustainable construction on the HMA pavement to modify one or more layers in the HMA pavement to form a sustainably constructed pavement; calculating a GHG emission of the sustainably constructed pavement; and obtaining a carbon reduction by comparing the GHG emissions of the HMA pavement and the sustainably constructed pavement.
FOAMED GLASS COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND A METHOD FOR USING THE SAME
A method for establishing a runway safety area adjacent a runway, wherein the runway safety area is a cement matrix having a plurality of foamed glass aggregate bodies suspended therein, including mixing cement and foamed glass aggregate bodies to define a composite material, forming the composite material into a runway safety area defining a plurality of foamed glass aggregate bodies suspended in a cement matrix, taxiing an aircraft over the runway safety area and crushing at least a portion of the runway safety area with the aircraft to bleed off the aircraft's kinetic energy, wherein the runway safety area has a crushing failure mode.
Foamed glass composite material and a method for using the same
A method of slowing an aircraft overrunning a runway, including paving an area immediately beyond the end of a runway with foamed glass bodies to define a bed, covering the bed with a layer of cementitious material to define a composite bed, and crushing at least a portion of the composite bed with an oncoming aircraft, wherein crushing the at least a portion of the composite bed removes kinetic energy from the oncoming aircraft to slow the oncoming aircraft. The composite bed is generally resistant to fire.
CONCRETE PRODUCT AND METHODS OF PREPARING THE SAME
A jointless concrete slab set by pouring a concrete slurry includes a) a concrete mixture; b) a colloidal silica admixture; and c) at least one reinforcing fiber selected from the group of fibers. As the poured concrete slurry cures, the poured slurry hardens into a composite material slab, and the jointless concrete slab defines capillary structures that at least in part fill with silica particles and lime, to produce a gel structure of calcium silicate hydrate. In another exemplary embodiment, the present invention is directed to a process for placing a jointless fiberless slab. The process comprises the steps of a) preparing a concrete slurry; b) pouring the concrete slurry onto the substrate; and c) allowing the concrete slurry to cure. In another exemplary embodiment, the present invention is directed to the product itself; namely, a jointless and/or fiberless concrete slab.
Permeable pavement and cured carbon fiber composition and a related method
A permeable pavement and cured fiber composition and a related method are provided. The permeable pavement composition includes a quantity of pavement material, and a quantity of cured carbon fiber composite material (CCFCM) configured to be added to the pavement material to produce a reinforced composition having improved characteristics. An example of pavement material includes a pervious concrete material. The method includes providing a quantity of pavement material, and adding a quantity of cured carbon fiber composite material to the pavement material to produce a reinforced composition having improved characteristics.
Dry Mix and Concrete Composition Containing Bed Ash and Related Methods
Embodiments of a dry mix for producing a concrete composition are provided. The dry mix includes aggregate, cement, and bed ash. The bed ash contains the combustion product of a fluidized bed coal combustion reaction. Additionally, embodiments of a method of preparing the dry mix and embodiments of a method of preparing a concrete composition are provided. The dry mix is also suitable for repairing soil slips, and embodiments of a method of repairing a soil slip are also provided.
