A pulmonary secretion clearing airway structure and related airway management system is disclosed that has a double lumen portion which each lumen of the double lumen portion operably secured to an airway management system so that inspiratory fluid (air/oxygen mixtures, with or without added water vapor) is delivered to the distal end of the ventilation catheter through one of the two lumens and expired inspiratory fluid, pulmonary secretions, and pulmonary fluids are removed from the patient through the other lumen. The expiratory fluid pathway preferably includes a secretion collection system for removing the pulmonary secretions and the like from the pathway, thereby improving operation and safety of the system. The airway structure can be a ventilation catheter or a supraglottic airway system such as laryngeal mask and the like.

Medical device system and method including an endotracheal tube

A medical device system and method including an endotracheal tube configured for insertion into a patients mouth or nose are disclosed. The endotracheal tube may include an outer cannula extending from a proximal end to a distal end configured to be positioned between in a patient's trachea. The outer cannula may include a lumen extending from a first opening defined in the proximal end to a second opening defined in the distal end. The endotracheal tube may further include an inner cannula removably positioned in the lumen of the outer cannula. The inner cannula may include a proximal end that extends outwardly from the first opening of the outer cannula, a distal end positioned adjacent to the distal end of the outer cannula, and a passageway extending through the distal and proximal ends of the inner cannula.

System, method, and apparatus for detecting tube misplacement in a patient's airway

Enteral tubes, tube tip detection systems, and methods for detecting tube misplacement are provided. For example, a tube tip detection system comprises an enteral tube having a tip and a first light disposed at the tip that is illuminated as the enteral tube is inserted into a patient to indicate to a user of the system whether the tip is misplaced in the patient's airway. Similarly, enteral tubes are provided that comprise a tip, a length, and a light that is continuously illuminated as the enteral tube is inserted into a patient. Methods for detecting a tube misplacement in a patient's airway include embedding a light into an enteral tube, inserting the enteral tube into the patient through the patient's nose or mouth, and monitoring a location of the light as the enteral tube is inserted into the patient to determine if the tube is traveling into the patient's airway.

An endotracheal tube assembly and methods of use are disclosed. The endotracheal tube assembly may include a tube having a distal end and a proximal end, a pull line extending through the tube, and a guide structure configured to guide a proximal portion of the pull line at a location proximal of the tube. The pull line may be configured such that when tension is applied to the pull line extending through the guide structure, the distal end of the endotracheal tube may bend in response to the tension applied to the pull line to form a curvature in the tube.

MEDICO-SURGICAL TUBES

A cuffed tracheostomy tube has a shaft (10) with an inflation lumen (16) extending longitudinally along the shaft and opening at its patient end into a sealing cuff (13). The tube also includes a reinforcement member provided by a metal wire (25) wound into two sets of loops (26A) and (26B) of different widths. The loops (26) extend part way around the shaft (10) up to but without crossing the inflation lumen (16).
