This is in the general field of surgical instruments and is specifically a delivery catheter with a flexible, proximally-manipulated hinge or joint region. The inventive catheter may have a balloon region. The catheter may have a shaft of varying flexibility which contains several lumen. The inner, or delivery, lumen generally may be used with a guidewire to access target sites within the body via the flexible, small diameter vessels of the body. The delivery lumen may be also used for placement of occlusive materials, e.g., in an aneurysm. Inflation of the micro-balloon, located near the distal tip of the catheter, is effected using the inflation lumen. The push/pull wire lumen contains a wire, which when manipulated, flexes the catheter's distal tip. The push/pull wire tubing may have a variable thickness to aid in adjusting the degree of flexibility. Moreover, the delivery catheter may be capable of twisting in a helical or corkscrew-like manner for traversing certain vasculature. This may be accomplished by winding the push/pull wire within the catheter and fixedly attaching it. The catheter may further include an entry in the catheter wall to allow for the insertion of a guidewire; this may facilitate the rapid exchange of catheter devices as desired by the user.

Reentry catheter

A reentry catheter having a catheter body having a lumen extending axially through a length of the catheter body, a distal port in communication with the lumen, and a flexible distal tip positioned at a distal end of the catheter body. The distal tip can have a first planar surface and a second planar surface that are angled to form a tapered portion in the distal tip. A thickness of the tapered portion in a first direction can decrease along the length of the tapered portion and can be less than a width of the tapered portion in a second direction at every point along the length of the tapered portion such that the tapered portion of the tip is more flexible when bent in the first direction than in the second direction, the second direction being normal to the first direction.

ENDOVASCULAR CATHETER WITH INTERNAL BALLOON

A catheter is disclosed that allows selective direction of a surgical tool into multiple blood vessels of a patient. The catheter includes a catheter body that has a main exit port and a side exit port. An internal balloon is provided within the catheter body. The internal balloon is inflatable, and can be located at or near a distal portion of the side exit port. When deflated, the internal balloon allows the surgical tool to advance past the side exit port and out the main exit port. When inflated, the internal balloon directs the surgical tool to advance out the side exit port instead of the main exit port.

A catheter for recanalizing a blood vessel having an occlusion therein via a subintimal pathway. The catheter includes a catheter shaft having an inflatable balloon mounted to the distal end portion of the catheter shaft. A flexible tubular member extends from the catheter shaft and along an exterior of the inflatable balloon. Inflation of the inflatable balloon deflects the flexible tubular member into a deflected configuration away from a longitudinal axis of the catheter shaft to effect re-entry into the true lumen distal of the occlusion.
