Dual pipe drill head quick interchange joint
A system for connecting a drill bit and pipe puller to a drill string. The system includes a downhole tool having an internal cavity and a through-hole in its wall. A coupler may be slidingly received in the cavity and connected using one or more fasteners which interconnect a groove in the coupler to the wall of the downhole tool. Fasteners used may be screws or bolts interconnecting the wall of the tool with radial holes in the coupler. Alternatively, bolts may interconnect the wall with a circumferential groove on the coupler. A drill bit may be threaded into the coupler. The coupler allows drill bits and other tools to be connected and disconnected from a downhole tool without unthreading the drill bit.
DOWNHOLE DEVICE DELIVERY AND ASSOCIATED DRIVE TRANSFER SYSTEM AND METHOD OF DELIVERING A DEVICE DOWN A HOLE
A downhole device delivery and drive transfer system includes a sub which is arranged to attach to a drill string and a tool which is configured to enable it to travel through the drill string and releasably couple to the sub. The sub and the tool are arranged so that when they are releasably coupled to each other torque imparted to the drill string is transferred by the sub to the tool. The tool is arranged to carry one or more devices for performing one or more downhole functions such as core drilling, hole reaming or wedge placement for directional drilling. The system also has a guide mechanism that operates between the sub and the tool to guide the tool to a known rotational orientation relative to the sub as the tool travels into the sub. A fluid control system controls the flow of fluid through the tool through a downhole outlet and and a plurality of ports intermediate opposite ends of the tool.
DRILL STRING JOINT FOR HORIZONTAL DIRECTIONAL DRILLING SYSTEM
A drill string joint includes a box end member defining, at a first axial end thereof, a first bore and a second deeper bore of smaller cross section than the first bore. A pin end member defines a first insertion portion corresponding to the first bore and a second insertion portion corresponding to the second bore. A conical tapered surface interface is defined between the second insertion portion and the second bore. Cross pins extend through apertures formed through the box end member, at the first bore, and the first insertion portion, within an axial span of the joint separate from an axial span in which the conical tapered surface interface of the second insertion portion and the second bore is defined. A torque coupling is established between the box end member and the pin end member at an axial position between the separate axial spans.
DISSOLVABLE DOWNHOLE CONNECT TOOL
A drill string connect tool comprises a housing having first and second sections. The first section has a first recess, and the second section has a second recess. The tool and the first and sections may be in a connected configuration or a disconnected configuration. The connect tool comprises at least one tension member placeable within, and suitable to transfer tensile forces between, the first and second sections when in the connected configuration. A retaining member can retain the tension member within the first and second recesses. The retaining member is selectively dissolvable by a dissolving fluid, while the remaining components of the tool can withstand the dissolving fluid. When exposed to a dissolving fluid, the retaining member dissolves, allowing the tension member to exit the first and second recesses, thereby actuating the tool to the disconnected configuration.
UNIVERSAL COUPLING SYSTEM FOR A DRILL STRING
A universal coupling system for a drill string is provided. The system comprises a double wedge box having a first box connection opposite a second box connection. The system also comprises a first double wedge and a second double wedge each releasably coupled to the double wedge box and each having a first wedge protrusion offset from a second wedge protrusion. The first wedge protrusion of each of the first double wedge and the second double wedge are received in the first box connection and the second box connection, respectively. The system also includes a first adaptor and a second adaptor each having a box connection opposite a pin connection. Each box connection of the first adaptor and the second adaptor receives the second wedge protrusion of each of the first and the second double wedges.
QUICK CONNECTION HYDRAULIC FRACTURING PLUG
A method and apparatus that provides a quick connection hydraulic fracturing plug that allows the hydraulic fracturing plug to connect to a mandrel of a drill string with installation of a single shear pin to establish a connection.
System and method for controlling a downhole operation using a clutch tool
A clutch tool includes a housing that is non-rotatable with respect to the first section of the work string and comprising inner grooves. The clutch tool also includes an inner mandrel that is non-rotatable with respect to the second section of the work string. The inner mandrel includes outer grooves that extend along only an axial portion of the inner mandrel. Further, the inner mandrel includes a torque transition area opening from the outer grooves and extending completely around the inner mandrel. The clutch tool also includes a torque sleeve comprising inner protrusions engageable with the outer grooves and outer protrusions engageable with the outer grooves, the outer protrusions being angled. Moreover, the clutch tool includes a biasing device to bias the inner protrusions of the torque sleeve into engagement with the outer grooves.
System, method and apparatus for orifice retention and replacement in a bottom hole assembly
A bottom hole assembly has a tubular component with an axis, a first axial end, a second axial end and a poppet valve assembly mounted in the second axial end. An orifice retainer is mounted inside the tubular component adjacent the first axial end. The orifice retainer has a retainer first axial end, a retainer second axial end opposite the retainer first axial end and an orifice pocket adjacent the retainer second axial end. The orifice retainer is installed in and can be removed from the first axial end of the tubular component, opposite the poppet valve assembly. In addition, an orifice is mounted in the orifice pocket of the orifice retainer. The orifice operates in conjunction with the poppet valve assembly.
Locking flush joint pipe connection and method
A method of borehole pipe installation begins with unfinished stick pipes brought to the installation site and then machined or cut to form male and female ends. The pipe ends are then locked together to form a flush joint. The lock can be provided via a groove cut into one of the ends for receipt of a lock gasket, which secures and seals the joint when the pipes are pushed together, and prevents the pipes from being pulled apart. Alternatively, to the groove and lock gasket, the ends can be glued and screwed together, with the screws allowing the joined pipes to be pulled through the borehole before the glue is dry. The pipe joint has flush exterior and interior surfaces to minimize borehole clearance and maximize fluid flow through the pipe assembly.
