Methods and apparatus to increase secretion of endogenous naturetic hormones
A method and apparatus for treatment of heart failure by increasing secretion of endogenous naturetic hormones ANP and BNP such as by stimulation of the heart atria. Heart pacing is done at an atrial contraction rate that is increased and can be higher than the ventricular contraction rate. Pacing may include mechanical distension of the right atrial appendage. An implantable device is used to periodically cyclically stretch the walls of the appendage with an implanted balloon.
Catheter with a double balloon structure to generate and apply an ablative zone to tissue
Ablation catheters and systems include coaxial catheter shafts with an inner lumen for delivering an ablative agent and an outer lumen for circulation of a cooling element about the catheter. Induction heating is used to heat a chamber and vaporize a fluid within by wrapping a coil about a ferromagnetic chamber and providing an alternating current to the coil. A magnetic field is created in the area surrounding the chamber which induces electric current flow in the chamber, heating the chamber and vaporizing the fluid inside. Positioning elements help maintain the device in the proper position with respect to the target tissue and also prevent the passage of ablative agent to normal tissues.
Methods and systems for facilitating laminar flow between conduits
Medical devices including vascular access kits and related system and methods are disclosed. In some embodiments, a vascular access system may include a first conduit, a second conduit, and an expandable stent that is coupled to both the first and second conduits such that there is a continuous lumen between the first conduit and the second conduit. Methods of deploying the vascular access system within the body of a mammal, more particularly, a human patient are disclosed. Methods of bypassing a section of vasculature of a mammal, more particularly, a human patient are disclosed. The vascular access system, when implanted and assembled, may be a fully subcutaneous surgical implant.
Rectal drain appliance
A rectal drainage appliance is disclosed comprising a tubular element having an inflatable balloon at a distal end for anchoring the appliance in the rectum. The appliance includes one or more of: (i) first and second auxiliary lumens communicating with the inflatable balloon to provide independent inflation and pressure monitoring paths coupled to the balloon; (ii) a pressure state indicator defined by a mechanical element configured to flip between first and second states or shapes responsive to sensed pressure; and (iii) a collapsible auxiliary lumen larger than the inflation lumen, and configured to permit admission of irrigation fluid. The pressure state indicator may also be used in intestinal drains.
System and method for treating heart tissue
Some embodiments of a system or method for treating heart tissue can include a control system and catheter device operated in a manner to intermittently occlude a heart vessel for controlled periods of time that provide redistribution of blood flow. In particular embodiments, the system and methods may be configured to monitor at least one input signal detected at a coronary sinus and thereby execute a process for determining a satisfactory time period for the occlusion of the coronary sinus. In further embodiments, after the occlusion of the coronary sinus is released, the control system can be configured to select the duration of the release phase before the starting the next occlusion cycle.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR IN SITU TISSUE EXPANSION
A tissue expansion system includes an expandable bladder for placement beneath the skin corresponding to a tissue to be expanded, a fluid source, a pump coupled to both the fluid source and the expandable bladder to deliver inflation medium thereto, a controller for the pump, a pressure sensor for monitoring pressure within the expandable bladder and informing the action of the controller, and a carrier for holding at least the fluid source, pump, and controller. The carrier is wearable as a bra or form-fitting vest and is shaped to mimic the appearance of natural breasts for the patient. The fluid source can have an outward facing surface that is relatively rigid to maintain a curved shape mimicking that of natural breast(s). The inward facing surface of the fluid source may be flexible to conform to the shape of the underlying skin and tissue as it is expanded.
CATHETERS ADAPTED FOR AGENT DELIVERY
Medical delivery devices, such as catheters, and their methods of use and manufacture. The medical delivery devices are adapted to facilitate the delivery of an agent into a patient. The medical delivery devices may have one or more deformable lumens, each of which has a collapsed configuration and an open configuration. The medical delivery devices may include one or more agent delivery ports, any one of which may be proximal or distal to an expandable device, such as a balloon.
Fluid pressure gun device for balloon catheter
A fluid pressure gun device for a balloon catheter includes a tubular cavity, a fluid tube, a pressure monitoring device, a plunger, a screw structure, a cover and a detent structure, wherein inside the body of the cavity forms a chamber. The plunger is disposed in the chamber, and the inside of the casing forms a chamber. The screwing structure includes two screwing blocks, and each screwing block is oppositely arranged in the chamber according to the plunger as the center. Each of the screw blocks is screwed with the plunger, and a plurality of springs respectively lean against the screw block and the cover. The detent structure is used to depart the screw blocks from the plunger. The plunger is supported by each screw block at least on two opposite sides, and making it a highly reliable combination of the plunger and each screw block.
Method of manufacturing a balloon catheter
To provide a new balloon catheter enabling formation of, with high dimensional accuracy and excellent shape adaptability with respect to a balloon, an additional structure such as a blade and a reinforcement member to be additionally provided to the balloon. In this balloon catheter 10 provided with an expandable/contractible balloon 14 on the distal end side of a catheter 12, an additional structure 36 having a prescribed pattern is formed through electroforming or the like directly onto an inner circumferential surface 34 and/or an outer circumferential surface 82 of the balloon 14.
