SINGLE TRIP LINER HANGER SYSTEM

A liner hanger system enables installation of a liner hanger by means of a full bore casing to surface and provides pressure integrity between the casing's inner and outer sides. The liner hanger system comprises a liner hanger, along with an associated liner, coupled to a tieback casing string. The liner hanger and liner are deployed downhole connected to a tieback casing string. Once the liner has been lowered to the position of interest, first the liner hanger is anchored and cemented in position, and then, a packer is set to seal the lower annulus of the liner. The liner hanger system enables operations that used to require a plurality of trips, to be performed in a single trip. It does so without introducing any unwanted limitation to the inner diameter at any point between the wellhead and the end of the liner, and while also allowing for potential decoupling and removal of the tieback casing string from the liner hanger if desired.

An isolation joint is provided with a downhole tubular that has an expandable section which, in axial direction, is sandwiched between a first separator section and a second separator section of the downhole tubular. The expandable section has a circumferential band of increased wall thickness compared to the wall thicknesses of the first and second separator sections. Furthermore, the downhole tubular is provided with a mating support at a predetermined axial location relative to said at least expandable section, adapted for mating with the local expander device within said downhole tubular. This mating support ensures transversal alignment with of a local expander device with the downhole tubular such that the local expansion exclusively is activated within the expandable section.

Method and Apparatus for Expanding Wellbore Casing

A tool for expanding a liner in a wellbore includes a cone assembly that is moveable between a retracted position and an extended position. The tool also includes a jack assembly that is operable by fluid pressure to move the cone assembly from the retracted position to the extended position. The fluid pressure is also applied to expansion cup seals to generate axial load that urges the cone assembly to move through the expandable liner and radially expand of the expandable liner. A latch assembly axially fixes the liner while the cone assembly moves to the extended position. Once the cone assembly is fully moved to the extended position, the latch assembly releases the liner, allowing the cone assembly to move through the liner and radially expand the liner.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR HANGING STRUCTURES IN DOWNHOLE ENVIRONMENTS

Downhole hanger systems and methods for hanging a first structure from a second structure in downhole environments are described. The systems include a first structure and a second structure, with the first structure disposed within the second structure. A composite joint is arranged on an outer surface of the first structure. The composite joint is formed of a material configured to be fused to both the first structure and the second structure and form a hanger joint having a shear strength of at least 2 ksi when the material is fused to the outer surface of the first structure and an inner surface of the second structure.

An expandable liner includes an expandable tubular having a threaded connection and a support layer comprising polyurea disposed around an exterior of the expandable tubular.

Expansion assembly for expandable liner hanger

The present disclosure provides an expansion assembly for setting a liner hanger into mating engagement with an interior surface of a wellbore casing. In one embodiment, the expansion assembly comprises a cone mandrel and an expanding cone assembly positioned adjacent the cone mandrel. The expanding cone assembly includes a plurality of sections, the plurality of sections positioned adjacent each other, each separable by a space S, and together forming an annular ring. The plurality of sections are configured to expand radially outward to a first outer diameter when subjected to a linear downhole force when moving downhole and to contract radially inward to a second smaller outer diameter when moving uphole.

Expandable connection with metal-to-metal seal

An expandable connection is configured such that a metal-to-metal seal is created upon expansion, even under different expansion ratios. The creation of the metal-to-metal seal can rely on a spring-back effect after expansion. A high pressure rating of the metal-to-metal seal that is created can be achieved with an oversized box face thickness. The expandable connection can also be configured to achieve a high tensile efficiency.
