Escape door assembly for storm shelter
12054984 · 2024-08-06 ·

A storm shelter escape door assembly includes a frame and a door hinged to the frame. The frame includes three inner sidewalls, an open end, and a horizontal attachment plate extending outwardly from upper edges of the inner sidewalls. The door has at least three outer sidewalls joined by a door face. The door is hinged to the frame adjacent the open end and below the horizontal attachment plate so the door is openable in an inward direction away from the horizontal attachment plate. When the door is in a closed position, the door face angles downwardly toward the open end to cause water to run off the door.

FOLDING STAIRCASE

A folding staircase for use in a door opening having a threshold. The folding staircase has a pair of stringers that have an upper end and a lower end that is adapted for contacting a ground surface. The stringers are spanned by at least one tread. A hinge is connected to a floor near the door opening and a threshold plate pivotally connected thereto is movable between a use position and a stowed position. The staircase may be provided with a lifting mechanism that biases the staircase and threshold plate toward their stowed positions. The lifting device provides a variable force that provides more rotational force when the staircase would require a user to bear more of its weight and less force when less of the weight of the staircase would be borne by a user.

A ladder assembly is described. The ladder assembly includes a frame, a door, a ladder and a cord manipulation assembly. The frame at least partially surrounds a first opening. The door is movably connected to the frame. The door is configured to cover at least a portion of the first opening of the frame, the door defines a second opening. The ladder is connected to at least one of the frame and the door. The ladder has a first side rail, a second side rail spaced a distance apart laterally from the first side rail, and a plurality of rungs extending between the first and second side rails. The ladder is configured to be at least partially positioned within the first opening of the frame. The cord manipulation assembly is connected to the door. The cord manipulation assembly has a power source connector, a reel adapted to support a cord, a motor operatively connected to the reel and the power source connector, and a remote control transceiver assembly operatively connected to the motor and the power source connector.

Exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure provide an insulated cover system comprising an insulated cover formed of rigid insulating material such as extruded polystyrene or polyisocyanurate panel having a high R-value with pivoted linkage assembly in communication with an attic pull-down ladder assembly such that the insulated cover automatically hinges open upon deploying the attic pull-down ladder and automatically hinges closed upon closing the attic pull-down ladder. The insulated cover is structured to effectively seal a ceiling access opening providing a high thermal R-value barrier while allowing hands-free access to and from the attic. Exemplary embodiments disclose the bottom edge of the insulated cover having a weatherstrip gasket to couple with a rigid frame to form an airtight seal therebetween.

FIRE RESISTANT ATTIC STAIRS

Attic stairs are constructed out of a box, a ladder, a box closing hatch, so that the ladder is suspended from attic stairs box using hinges and the closing hatch is suspended from the ladder. The closing hatch features a stratified structure, including an inner layer located between two rigid outer strata, where the inner layer is entirely filled with a fire resistant material.

Ceiling ladder, deep step and method

A ceiling ladder having a plurality of sections that can be climbed by a user when in an unfolded position into an attic and that can be folded together into a retracted position to be stored above the ceiling. The ladder has a deep step, which has a width greater than the width of other steps of the ladder, in which is located between about 2-5 feet from the floor when the ladder is in the unfolded position so that a user can stand on the deep step and place objects into the attic without having to climb into the attic.

Attic insulation cover

An attic-insulation cover designed to cover access doors leading into attic spaces, such as pull down stairs, scuttle holes and vertical attic doors includes an attic insulation flange or border for placement over the attic opening frame, the attic insulation flange having a first top end and a second bottom end, an attic insulation jacket having a top wall, parallel side walls, parallel end walls and a bottom panel; and a closure device at the second bottom end of the attic-insulation flange for connecting the attic insulation flange and the attic insulation jacket.

Attic stair apparatus
12227950 · 2025-02-18 ·

An improved retractable attic stair apparatus assembly includes a stair component retractable staircase assembly including two shock mount subassemblies, two gas spring subassemblies, and two short railing pipe assemblies. The two short railing pipe assemblies are used as a left and right handrail of the retractable staircase assembly while also supporting the two shock mount subassemblies. The two gas spring subassemblies are at least partially supported by the two shock mount subassemblies. The attic stair apparatus is configured for an installation site in an attic or a garage and includes a first retracted configuration. A deployed configuration allows the apparatus to extend downwardly from the installation site for use of the attic stair apparatus by a user to ascend the attic stair apparatus to access an attic, a garage crawl space, or a garage roof.
