Downhole tool and method of use
10900321 · 2021-01-26 · ·

A downhole tool for use in a wellbore having a mandrel, a bearing plate, a first slip, and a second slip. The second slip has a second slip body having a one-piece configuration, an outer second slip surface, an inner second slip surface, and a plurality of second slip grooves disposed therein. At least one of second slip grooves forms a lateral opening in the second slip body. The second slip is made from a composite material or metal material.

Downhole tool and method of assembly

A downhole tool for a wellbore and method of assembly. Components of the tool include a load member, one or slip members, one or more compression members, and a sealing element between the compression members mounted on a mandrel. The components are designed to prevent pre-set of the tool in the wellbore and facilitate removal of the tool from the wellbore.

HEAVE COMPENSATION SYSTEM FOR ASSEMBLING A DRILL STRING

A method of deploying a jointed tubular string into a subsea wellbore includes lowering the tubular string into the subsea wellbore from an offshore drilling unit. The tubular string has a slip joint. The method further includes, after lowering, anchoring a lower portion of the tubular string below the slip joint to a non-heaving structure. The method further includes, while the lower portion is anchored: supporting an upper portion of the tubular string above the slip joint from a rig floor of the offshore drilling unit; after supporting, adding one or more joints to the tubular string, thereby extending the tubular string; and releasing the upper portion of the extended tubular string from the rig floor. The method further includes: releasing the lower portion of the extended tubular string from the non-heaving structure; and lowering the extended tubular string into the subsea wellbore.

ULTRASHORT PLUG

An embodiment of the present invention utilizes a frac plug having an extremely short length. The extremely short length minimizes the amount of dissolvable material that must be utilized in order to maintain the physical integrity of the plug without unduly deforming the cone. Relatively uniform loading of the cone is accomplished by circumferentially locking the slip sections in place during setting. A sufficient quantity of sealing material is provided by angling the slip surface to a degree that allows a sufficient quantity of elastomer or other sealing material to be used in conjunction with backup rings to prevent the sealing material from extruding down towards the slip.

The present invention provides an actuation member for traveling down a borehole of a casing to engage with one or more geometrical profile locations provided inside the casing, and a system for controllably exposing selected locations along the wellbore to a pressurized fluid. The actuation member comprises a generally cylindrical hollow body extending between an uphole end and a downhole end, and a plug seat configured to receive a plug for blocking the borehole. The actuation member has two edge portions separate and movable relative to one another to facilitate resilient deformation of the hollow body, wherein the deformation causes a reduction of cross-sectional area of the hollow body. An outer surface of the hollow body comprises one or more protrusions and/or grooves configured to matingly engage with the one or more geometric profile locations in the casing.

A DOWNHOLE PLUGGING SYSTEM

A downhole tool having a mandrel and a slip. The mandrel has a mandrel body having a proximate end; a distal end; and an outer surface. The slip has a slip body; and an outer slip surface. The outer slip surface is configured with an insert bore, and an insert disposed therein. The insert has an outward most insert face that includes a hole.

Downhole tool with tethered ball

A downhole tool having a mandrel, a first slip, a second slip, a lower sleeve, and a tethered ball assembly. The mandrel includes a proximate end; a distal end; a bore having a ball seat associated therewith; and an outer surface. The first slip is disposed around the mandrel. The second slip is disposed around the mandrel. The lower sleeve is proximate to the first slip, and engaged with the outer surface at the distal end. The tethered ball assembly includes a ball; a drag; and at least one tether coupled between the ball and the drag.

BACKUP

A backup including a radially inwardly disposed circumferentially continuous ring; a radially outwardly disposed circumferentially discontinuous ring, the circumferentially discontinuous ring comprising a plurality of segments arranged to overlap adjacent ones thereof about a circumference of the circumferentially discontinuous ring.
