An air conditioning system includes a compressor and a refrigerant line. A power generating unit may be disposed along the refrigerant line to generate power from the heat in the refrigerant line while helping to convert hot compressed refrigerant gas into a hot high-pressure refrigerant liquid. An air conditioning system may also involve using a cooling chamber to use refrigerant to cool a heat exchange medium which is then used in a cooling coil to condition air.

A reverse compression cycle machine includes an evaporator, a compressor and a condenser arranged in series along a path of a working fluid in the machine, further including a boundary layer turbine placed between the condenser and the evaporator. The turbine includes a set of power disks mounted on a shaft which rotates inside a volume of a rotor casing, an inlet opening for introducing a working fluid in a stator volume, a stator nozzle, which accelerates the flow in a direction that is tangential to the power disks, and a discharge of a working fluid. The rotor casing includes a drain of a liquid fraction of the working fluid from the peripheral part of the power disks in order to avoid its concentration in the peripheral part of the volume of the rotor casing.

A water extractor includes a body with an outer wall, an inlet, an outlet, a first centerline axis, an inner nozzle, an outer chamber, a serpentine channel, a pocket, and a boss. The first centerline axis extends through a center of the body, the outlet, and the inlet. The inner nozzle is co-axial with the first centerline axis. The outer chamber extends between the outer wall and the inner nozzle. The serpentine channel fluidly connects the inlet and the outer chamber. The pocket is fluidly connected to a portion of the outer chamber and is configured to collect water from the outer chamber. The boss extends from and is fluidly connected to the pocket. The boss includes a second centerline axis at an angle with the first centerline axis of approximately 10 degrees or greater.

Disclosed is a device for liquefying a fluid, comprising a fluid circuit to be cooled, the device comprising a heat exchanger assembly in heat exchange with the fluid circuit to be cooled, at least one first cooling system in heat exchange with at least a portion of the heat exchanger assembly, the first cooling system being a refrigerator having a cycle for refrigerating a cycle gas mainly comprising helium, said refrigerator comprising in series in a cycle circuit: a mechanism for compressing the cycle gas, at least one member for cooling the cycle gas, a mechanism for expanding the cycle gas, and at least one member for reheating the expanded cycle gas, wherein the compression mechanism includes at least four compression stages in series composed of a centrifugal compressor assembly, the compression stages being mounted on shafts that are rotationally driven by a motor assembly, the expansion mechanism comprising at least three expansion stages in series composed of a set of centripetal turbines, the at least one member for cooling the cycle gas being configured to cool the cycle gas at the outlet of at least one of the turbines, and wherein at least one of the turbines is coupled to the same shaft as at least one compression stage so as to feed the mechanical work produced during the expansion to the compression stage.

Flexible process and apparatus for the liquefaction of oxygen

A system and method for cooling an oxygen stream by heat exchange with a warming supply nitrogen stream having of a heat exchanger having at least a Zone A and a Zone B, the system having indirect heat exchange between a gaseous oxygen stream, and a high-pressure liquid nitrogen stream split into at least a first portion which passes through a Zone A, and a second portion which passes through a Zone B during a first phase of operation. And a high-pressure liquid nitrogen stream passing through Zone A, thereby producing a high-pressure nitrogen vapor stream, which passes through an expansion turbine, thereby producing an expansion turbine outlet stream which then passes through Zone B, during a second phase of operation, thereby producing a liquid oxygen stream.

Flexible liquefied natural gas plant

The present techniques are directed to a flexible liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant that may be tied to an external electric grid for importing or exporting electric power. Exemplary embodiments provide a method for producing LNG that includes producing a base load capacity of refrigeration capacity for LNG production from a first compression system. Electricity may be produced from a second compressor string if electricity is needed by an external power grid, or a second amount of refrigeration capacity may be provided by the second compressor string is natural gas feed is available and the external grid does not need power.

A turbomachine arrangement includes a housing, a turbo-expander formed with an expander rotor, a turbo-compressor formed with a first compressor rotor, and a shaft that is rotatably mounted on the housing. The shaft connects the expander rotor to the compressor rotor. The first turbo-compressor can be driven exclusively by the turbo-expander. A second turbo-compressor having a second compressor rotor is disposed on the housing such that the second compressor rotor is connected to the first turbo-compressor in parallel or in series. The second compressor rotor is driven via a transmission accommodated in the housing and via a drive shaft connecting the transmission to the second compressor rotor.

Adaptive turbomachine cooling system

In accordance with at least one aspect of this disclosure, a turbomachine cooling system includes a first low pressure port disposed in a low pressure portion of a turbomachine and a first high pressure port disposed in a high pressure portion of the turbomachine and in selective fluid communication with the first low pressure port via a cooling channel. The high pressure portion of the turbomachine is configured for a higher compression than the low pressure portion of the turbomachine where the first low pressure port is disposed. The cooling system can include a heat exchanger system disposed in the cooling channel such that a flow traveling from the first high pressure port to the first low pressure port is cooled by the heat exchanger system before traveling through the first low pressure port into the low pressure portion of the turbomachine.

The diffuser is disposed in the outlet portion downstream of the impeller. The centrifugal compressor further includes a seal bearing. The seal bearing is attached to the inlet portion to seal the impeller shroud, and rotatably supports the impeller and the shaft.
