SPAR WITH EMBEDDED PLENUM PASSAGE
20220186620 · 2022-06-16 ·

A spar for a vane arc segment of a gas turbine engine includes an elongated spar leg that has a spar wall that circumscribes a core passage. There is a plenum passage embedded in the spar wall between inner and outer portions of the spar wall. The inner portion of the spar wall is fully solid such that the plenum passage is fluidly isolated from the core passage. The outer portion of the spar wall has a plurality of cooling through-holes for emitting cooling air from the plenum passage.

Method for coating a component for the hot gas duct of a turbomachine

The invention relates to a method for coating a component, which is provided for the hot gas duct of a turbomachine, wherein the coating material is applied onto the uncoated component surface in the form of particles in mixture with a binding agent, and the component with the particle-treated binding agent thereupon then undergoes thermal treatment in such a way that the binding agent is released and the coating material remains on the component.

System for an improved stator assembly

An improved stator assembly for use in a gas-turbine engine is disclosed. The stator assembly may comprise a vane, an inner diameter (ID) ring, an outer diameter (OD) ring, a vane disposed between the ID ring and the OD ring, a potting component coupling the vane to at least one of the OD ring or the ID ring, and a potting embedded component disposed within the potting component. The potting embedded component may prevent disbond of the potting component during operation of the gas-turbine engine.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR NOZZLE RING REPAIR

A method and system are provided for repairing a nozzle ring having a defect adjacent a transition between a ring plate and an inner skirt of the nozzle ring, comprising: forming at least one cut to detach at least one of a portion of the inner skirt, a portion of the transition, and a portion of the ring plate, thereby forming a joint surface and removing at least a portion of the defect; providing a replacement ring including replacement components for the detached at least one of a portion of the inner skirt, a portion of the transition, and a portion of the ring plate; and attaching the replacement ring to the nozzle ring at the joint surface using one of brazing or welding.

METHOD TO FABRICATE A MACHINABLE CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE
20220169574 · 2022-06-02 ·

A method to form a machinable ceramic matrix composite comprises forming a porous ceramic multilayer on a surface of a fiber preform. In one example, the porous ceramic multilayer comprises a gradient in porosity in a direction normal to the surface. In another example, the porous ceramic multilayer includes low-wettability particles having a high contact angle with molten silicon, where an amount of the low-wettability particles in the porous ceramic multilayer varies in a direction normal to the surface. After forming the porous ceramic multilayer, the fiber preform is infiltrated with a melt, and the melt is cooled to form a ceramic matrix composite with a surface coating thereon. An outer portion of the surface coating is more readily machinable than an inner portion of the surface coating. The outer portion of the surface coating is machined to form a ceramic matrix composite having a machined surface with a predetermined surface finish and/or dimensional tolerance.

Hybrid rotor with a segmented drum
11346224 · 2022-05-31 · ·

A rotor for an axial turbomachine includes a drum formed of several parts including: composite rings made of composite material and metallic rings interposed between the composite rings. The metallic rings carry the rotor blades. The metallic rings have an axial branch axially overlapping the composite rings and at least one radial branch in contact with the composite rings.

Turbine blade with abradable tip

The present disclosure relates to turbine blades adapted for use in gas turbine engines. In particular, this disclosure is directed to turbine blades that include components made from ceramic matrix composite materials and that incorporate abradable materials.

Turbine shroud assembly with axially biased ceramic matrix composite shroud segment

A turbine shroud assembly includes a carrier assembly, a blade track assembly, and a first biasing member. The carrier assembly includes a carrier segment having an outer wall, a first mount flange and a second mount flange having a chordal seal. The blade track assembly includes a blade track segment and a first mount pin. The first biasing member is arranged axially between and engaged with the carrier segment and the blade track assembly so as to bias an attachment feature of the black track segment into engagement with the chordal seal of the second mount flange.

Turbine shroud assembly with radially biased ceramic matrix composite shroud segments

A turbine shroud assembly adapted for use with a gas turbine engine includes a shroud segment and a carrier. The shroud segment extends circumferentially partway around an axis to define a gas path boundary of the turbine shroud assembly. The carrier is configured to support the shroud segment in position radially relative to the axis.

GAS TURBINE ENGINE

A highly efficient gas turbine engine is provided. The fan of the gas turbine engine is driven from a turbine via a gearbox, such that the fan has a lower rotational speed than the driving turbine, thereby providing efficiency gains. The efficient fan system is mated to a core that has low cooling flow requirements and/or high temperature capability, and which may have particularly low mass for a given power.
