DEVELOPMENT OF A SWITCHING ROLLER FINGER FOLLOWER FOR CYLINDER DEACTIVATION IN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES
A rocker arm includes an outer arm having a first side and a second side, an inner arm positioned between the first side and the second side of the outer arm, a pivot axle pivotally coupling the inner arm and the outer arm at a first end of each of the inner arm and the outer arm, and a latch having a first position and a second position. The latch in the first position pivotally fixes the inner arm and the outer arm at a second end of each of the inner arm and the outer arm, and in the second position allows the inner arm and the outer arm to pivot independently. The latch is responsive to hydraulic pressure in a hydraulic fluid passage to selectively move to other of the first position and the second position. A lost motion spring is coupled to the inner arm.

ADAPTIVE ANY-FUEL CAMLESS RECIPROCATING ENGINE
An adaptive, any-fuel reciprocating engine using sensor feedback integration of high-speed optical sensors with real-time control loops to adaptively manage the electronic actuation schemes over a range of engine loads and fuels. The engine uses one or more optical sensors to collect specific types of gas property data via a spectroscopic technique to adaptively control various components within the engine.
Valve opening-closing timing control device
A phase adjustment mechanism for setting a relative rotational phase of a driven-side rotational body to a drive-side rotational body of a valve opening-closing timing control device includes a output gear around a rotational axis, an input gear being rotated around an eccentric axis, and an eccentric member. The eccentric member includes an outer peripheral surface with a first arc portion, a second arc portion, a plate spring fitted between the first arc portion and the second arc portion, and a spaced portion. Each of the first arc portion and the second arc portion is disposed from a position less than 90 degrees to a position more than 90 degrees as a central angle with respect to the eccentric axis from a biasing direction of the plate spring in the peripheral direction.
Apparatus and method for controlling deactivation of cylinders in engine
An apparatus and method for controlling deactivation of cylinders in an engine may include a sensor that measures pressure inside an intake manifold of the engine, an oil control valve (OCV) that deactivates the cylinders in the engine, and a controller that is configured to control the OCV to deactivate a specific cylinder in the engine, based on the pressure inside the intake manifold.
KNOCK SENSOR SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR VALVE RECESSION CONDITIONS
In one embodiment, a method is provided. The method includes receiving a signal representative of an engine vibration transmitted via a knock sensor, wherein the knock sensor is disposed in an engine. The method additionally includes deriving a valve wear measurement during operation of the engine based on the signal. The method further includes communicating the valve wear measure.
Sliding cam system
The present disclosure relates to a sliding cam system for an internal combustion engine. The sliding cam system has a camshaft and a plurality of cam carriers with in each case at least two cams, the plurality of cam carriers being arranged fixedly on the camshaft so as to rotate with it and in an axially displaceable manner. The sliding cam system has a plurality of fluid-actuated actuator apparatuses which are configured in each case for axially displacing a cam carrier of the plurality of cam carriers. The sliding cam system has a fluid feed apparatus which is provided for feeding a fluid in a fluidic connection upstream of the plurality of actuator apparatuses for actuating the plurality of actuator apparatuses. At least two actuator apparatuses of the plurality of actuator apparatuses are coupled fluidically for simultaneous actuation.
Cylinder head cover structure for engine
A cylinder head cover structure for an engine includes a cylinder head cover. The cylinder head cover includes a metal cover member forming one end of the cylinder head cover in an engine length direction and a portion adjacent to the one end, and a resin cover member forming a portion of the cylinder head cover other than the metal cover member. The metal cover member is provided with a cam angle sensor attachment to which a cam angle sensor is attached, the cam angle sensor detecting a rotational position of a camshaft of the engine.
