EXHAUST GAS PURIFICATION DEVICE
An exhaust gas purification device includes a first catalyst, a second catalyst, a bypass pipe, a hydrocarbon adsorbent, and a switching controller. The first catalyst is provided in an exhaust pipe. The second catalyst is provided downstream of the first catalyst in the exhaust pipe. The bypass pipe branches from a first portion of the exhaust pipe. The first portion is located upstream of the second catalyst. The bypass pipe is recoupled to a second portion of the exhaust pipe. The second portion is located upstream of the second catalyst. The hydrocarbon adsorbent is provided in the bypass pipe. The switching controller is configured to switch a flow path of an exhaust gas to the bypass pipe based on a deterioration degree of the first catalyst.
Method for operating a combustion engine system
The present disclosure relates to a combustion engine system and a method of operation thereof. The combustion engine system includes a pollutant conversion system and an exhaust gas turbocharger that includes a variable turbine geometry and a waste gate valve. The variable turbine geometry includes adjustable guide elements surrounding the turbine wheel in a circumferential direction and are arranged to define an overall cross-section in their respective position for the exhaust gas. In a control mode where the pollutant conversion system comprises a temperature above a threshold temperature, the guide elements are adjusted such that the overall cross-section is between a control minimum value and a control maximum value. In a heat-up mode at temperatures of the pollutant conversion system below the threshold temperature, the guide elements are moved to a heat-up position where the overall cross-section is smaller than the control minimum value.
Exhaust after-treatment system with adjustable flow path, and method for operating such an exhaust after-treatment system
An exhaust after-treatment system includes a first set of exhaust after-treatment components, a second set of exhaust after-treatment components, an inlet to the exhaust after-treatment system, an outlet from the exhaust after-treatment system, and a valve and conduit arrangement configurable in a plurality of modes, in a first mode, exhaust gas entering the inlet flows through the second set of exhaust after-treatment components, then through the first set of exhaust after-treatment components, and then through the outlet. In a second mode, exhaust gas entering the inlet flows through the second set of exhaust after-treatment components without flowing through the first set of exhaust after-treatment components, and then through the outlet in a third mode, exhaust gas entering the inlet flows through the first set of exhaust after-treatment components, then through the second set of exhaust after-treatment components, and then through the outlet.
EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT COMPONENT WITH BYPASS VALVE
An exhaust system includes a first aftertreatment substrate configured to receive exhaust gases from an engine and a second aftertreatment substrate downstream of the first aftertreatment substrate, wherein the first aftertreatment substrate is smaller than the second aftertreatment substrate. A bypass valve is configured to direct exhaust gas through the first aftertreatment substrate prior to entering the second aftertreatment substrate when an exhaust gas temperature is below a predetermined temperature and is configured to allow exhaust gas to bypass the first aftertreatment substrate and enter the second aftertreatment substrate when the exhaust gas temperature is above the predetermined temperature.
Exhaust heat recovery structure
In an exhaust heat recovery structure, a heat exchange portion (a tubular part) is configured such that a height of a lower inner surface is lowered from an inlet toward an outlet. Hence, when exhaust gas is condensed and condensed water is thereby generated inside the heat exchange portion (the tubular part), the condensed water flows from the inlet side toward the outlet side where the lower inner surface is lowered, and is then discharged to a piping part. Accordingly, the condensed water is unlikely to be collected inside the heat exchange portion.
Method and system for emissions reduction
Methods and systems are provided for operating a branched exhaust assembly in a vehicle engine in order to increase catalyst efficiency and reduce engine emissions. In one example, a method may include, during a cold-start condition, flowing exhaust first through a three-way catalyst then through an underbody converter, then through a heat exchanger and then through a turbine, each exhaust component housed on different branches on the branched exhaust assembly. After catalyst activation, exhaust may flow first through the turbine, then through the underbody converter and then through the three-way catalyst, and during high engine load, exhaust entering the turbine may be cooled in order to reduce thermal load on the turbine.
ENGINE SYSTEM
Provided is an engine system including: a bypass pipe (bypass flow passage) connecting an upstream side and a downstream side of the turbine on an exhaust flow passage; a bypass valve configured to open and close the bypass flow passage; and a catalytic activation controller configured to control the bypass valve and a compression ratio of a combustion chamber.
HEAT EXCHANGER
A heat exchanger includes: a hollow pillar shaped honeycomb structure; a first cylindrical member fitted to a surface of an outer peripheral wall of the pillar shaped honeycomb structure; a second cylindrical member fitted to a surface of an inner peripheral wall of the pillar shaped honeycomb structure; a cylindrical guide member having a portion, the portion being disposed on a radially inner side of the second cylindrical member with a distance so as to form the flow path for the first fluid; an upstream cylindrical member connecting an upstream end of the first cylindrical member to an upstream side of the guide member; and a downstream cylindrical member connected to a downstream end of the first cylindrical member. The guide member includes an inclined portion that inclines to its downstream side.
APPARATUS FOR THE AFTERTREATMENT OF EXHAUST GASES
An apparatus for aftertreatment of exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, with a housing through which the exhaust gas can flow from an inlet to an outlet, a flow path spatially delimited in a radial direction and through which gases can flow in an axial direction arranged inside the housing, a catalytic converter in the flow path, and a heating element arranged in the flow path for electrically heating the exhaust gas. An annular gap through which gases can flow is formed between the flow path and the inner wall of the housing. The distribution of the exhaust gas mass flow between the flow path and the annular gap is influenced by a control element.
VALVE, EXHAUST BRANCH FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND VEHICLE HAVING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A valve has a housing and a flap. The housing includes a chamber having an inlet, a first outlet, and a second outlet. The flap is rotatably mounted about an axis of rotation within the chamber and is movable between a first position in which the inlet is fluidically connected to the first outlet and the second outlet is closed, a second position, in which the inlet is fluidically connected to the second outlet and the first outlet is closed, and a third position in which the inlet is fluidically connected to the first outlet and the second outlet. The flap has a projection that projects into the second outlet in the first position of the flap. Furthermore, an exhaust branch for an internal combustion engine having a heat exchanger, a bypass, and the valve, and a vehicle having an internal combustion engine and the exhaust branch are provided.
