Motor Vehicle Turbo or Supercharger Diverter Valve System
Turbo or super charged intake tract diverter valve system, upstream of a throttle valve, includes a closure means (10) for a diversion aperture (4.1) in the intake tract (3) to vent pressurised gases within to a bypass path or atmosphere; the closure means having a transfer aperture (12) facilitating a net three due to a pressure differential on its opposite sides of the closure means (10) so as to close or keep closed the diversion aperture (4.1). When gas pressure on opposite sides of the closure means is equal, and when an upstream side (10.1) of the closure means (10) has a pressure greater than a downstream side (5.1), then it will open the diversion aperture (4.1). An actuation means opens a control aperture (6) to create the necessary pressure differential on the closure means (10) to thereby cause same to open the diversion aperture (4.1).
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR CONTROLLING AIR FLOW PATHS IN AN ENGINE
Methods and systems are provided for controlling the temperature and ratio of gases within a gas mixing tank reservoir and selectively charging/discharging gases from the reservoir to one or both of an intake system or an exhaust system. In one example, a method (or system) may include storing exhaust gas and/or compressed intake air into a gas mixing reservoir, and increasing or decreasing flow of coolant to the reservoir based on engine operating conditions. The stored gases may be discharged to an intake system and/or an exhaust system based on requests from a controller, and coolant flow to the reservoir may be adjusted based on the composition of the gases stored within the reservoir.
Turbocharger and marine vessel
A hybrid turbocharger includes a first power conversion unit to convert a direct-current power into alternating-current power to be output to a generator motor, a smoothing capacitor between direct-current buses, and a control unit that controls the first power conversion unit so as to cause actual generator motor speed to comply with an engine speed command of the generator motor input from an upstream controller during a motoring operation of the generator motor. The control unit changes the engine speed command to a value which is equal to or greater than the actual generator motor speed if the engine speed command of the generator motor is less than the actual generator motor speed and a direct-current bus voltage is equal to or greater than a predetermined first threshold value during the motoring operation. Accordingly, the direct-current bus voltage can be prevented from increasing during the motoring operation.
Turbocharger with oil containment arrangement
A turbocharger is provided including a turbine, a compressor and a bearing housing. A shaft is rotatably disposed within the bearing housing and extends into the turbine and the compressor. A bearing arrangement is disposed between the shaft and the bearing. The bearing arrangement includes a roller bearing formed between an outer bearing race element disposed in the bearing bore, and an inner bearing race element disposed in the outer bearing race element. A bearing retainer connected between the bearing housing and the compressor. An end portion of the bearing inner race element includes an integral oil slinger comprising a radially outward extending portion that slopes away from the shaft.
METHOD FOR OPERATING A SUPERCHARGED INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND DEVICE FOR PROVIDING COMBUSTION AIR FOR A SUPERCHARGED INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
The disclosure relates to a method for operating a supercharged internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder group with a number n of combustion chambers, wherein, during a first operating state, all n combustion chambers are supplied with combustion air via a primary charge air path and, during a second operating state, only a portion of the n combustion chambers are supplied with combustion air from the primary charge air path and another portion of the n combustion chambers are supplied with combustion air from a separate compressed air reservoir.
Engine exhaust temperature control
Methods and systems for improving operation of an engine at higher speeds and loads are disclosed. In one example, fuel may be injected to an exhaust system of the engine so that temperatures of exhaust system components may be reduced when the engine is operated at higher speeds and loads.
Method for cold-start pre-warming of a pressure-charged internal combustion engine and/or of an exhaust gas aftertreatment device
A method for cold start pre-warming of a pressure-charged internal combustion engine and/or of an exhaust gas aftertreatment device of a internal combustion engine, includes arranging a cold-starting aid in the intake duct for warming the charge air while the engine is stationary. The internal combustion engine has at least one working cylinder with at least one inlet valve and at least one outlet valve and further includes a device for setting a valve position. The internal combustion engine can be pressure-charged by a pressure-charging device operable by an electric motor. In the method, after detection of a cold start of the internal combustion engine: the cold-starting aid is activated while the engine is stationary; electric-motor operation of the pressure-charging device is activated; and a valve overlap between at least one inlet valve and at least one outlet valve is set.
Turbocharger compressor cover with convertible outlet connection
A turbocharger housing includes a discharge outlet having a tubular configuration that extends tangentially from a peripheral portion of the housing and an externally threaded section adjacent the end of the discharge outlet to allow the discharge outlet to be connected either to a hose by a hose clamp or to a flanged pipe via an internally threaded flange engaging the externally threaded section of the discharge outlet and a V-band clamp securing the flanges together.

Engine system with intake bypass device
An object is to provide an engine system including an intake bypass device whereby it is possible to expand the operation range of a compressor without causing the output of a turbine to become insufficient. An engine system includes an intake bypass device including a bypass channel connecting a downstream side of a compressor of a turbocharger in an intake channel and an upstream side of a turbine of the turbocharger in an exhaust channel, a bypass valve disposed in the bypass channel and configured to control a flow of compressed intake air in the bypass channel, and a heating unit for heating the compressed intake air flowing through the bypass channel.
