Fuel gelling prevention using engine auto start functionality
11739686 · 2023-08-29 · ·

In some embodiments, a fuel temperature sensor is located proximate to a vehicle component that is expected to experience fuel gelling, such as near or within a fuel filter, in order to obtain temperature information that accurately reflects the likelihood of fuel gelling occurring within the component. The proximate fuel temperature sensor can provide more accurate temperature information for components such as fuel filters that are installed at the periphery of the vehicle, compared to other temperature sensors that measure oil temperatures or other temperatures of centrally located vehicle components. In some embodiments, the vehicle is automatically started when the temperature indicated by the fuel temperature sensor falls below a startup temperature threshold value, and is automatically stopped after a predetermined time period or after the temperature reaches a shutdown temperature threshold value.

In-situ sensor for fuel spray impingement in direct injection engines

A sensor device system for detection of a liquid adjacent to the sensor having a glass fiber laminate substrate, at least one pair of comb electrodes formed on the glass fiber laminate substrate, a first of the pair of comb electrodes being interdigitated with a second of the pair of comb electrodes, the pair of comb electrodes defining geometric parameters; and a passivation coating covering the pair of comb electrodes.

MASS-FLOW THROTTLE FOR LARGE NATURAL GAS ENGINES

A mass-flow throttle for highly accurate control of gaseous supplies of fuel and/or air to the combustion chambers for a large engine in response to instantaneous demand signals from the engine's engine control module (ECM), especially for large spark-ignited internal combustion engines. With a unitary block assembly and a throttle blade driven by a non-articulated rotary actuator shaft, in combination with control circuitry including multiple pressure sensors as well as sensors for temperature and throttle position, the same basic throttle concepts are suited to be used for both mass-flow gas (MFG) and mass-flow air (MFA) throttles in industrial applications, to achieve highly accurate mass-flow control despite pressure fluctuations while operating in non-choked flow. The throttle, in combination with the sensors and ECM, enable detection of backfire events, with the throttle system further being enabled to take operative measures to prevent damage to the throttle components resulting from a backfire event.

SYSTEMS, METHODS AND APPARATUSES FOR WET STACK RESIDUE MITIGATION

An intelligent electronic device (IED) may monitor wet stack residue buildup of a diesel engine. Once the wet stack residue accumulates to a certain amount, the IED may perform a mitigation procedure. Additionally, tracking wet stack residue buildup may allow an IED to attempt to prevent or reduce accumulation of the wet stack residue. The IED may track an operating power level of the diesel engine to estimate the rate of residue buildup.

System and method for detecting operating events of an engine via MIDI

A method of monitoring an operating event of a combustion engine includes receiving a noise signal sensed by a knock sensor disposed in or proximate to the combustion engine, correlating the noise signal with a musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) fingerprint having at least an ADSR envelope indicative of the operating event, and detecting if the operating event has occurred based on the correlating of the noise signal with the fingerprint.

A temperature sensor for a motor vehicle is disclosed. The temperature sensor includes a temperature-sensitive element, two electrical wires connecting the temperature-sensitive element to an electrical connector, an insulating sheath surrounding the two electrical wires, a protective endpiece including a closed end in which the temperature-sensitive element is housed, and a fixing means through which the insulating sheath passes. The fixing means has a threaded element to be screwed into a threaded orifice provided in a vehicle engine interface element to fix the temperature sensor to the engine interface element and a stop fixed to the insulating sheath. The stop surrounds the insulating sheath and provides sealing between the inside of the engine interface element and the outside, the threaded element being capable of rotating with respect to the stop. The stop comprises at least one lug that goes into a slot provided in the engine interface element to prevent the temperature sensor from rotating with respect to the engine interface element.
