A method and system for controlling operation of a two-stroke engine having a turbocharger includes the two-stroke engine comprising an electronically controlled exhaust valve. A throttle position sensor generates a throttle position signal corresponding to a position of a throttle plate of a throttle. A boost box is coupled to the two-stroke engine. A boost box pressure sensor is coupled to the boost box and generates a boost box pressure signal corresponding to a pressure within the boost box. A controller is coupled to the boost box pressure signal controlling a position of the electronically controlled exhaust valve in response to the boost box pressure signal and the throttle position signal.
EXHAUST CATALYST LIGHT-OFF IN AN OPPOSED-PISTON ENGINE
In an opposed-piston engine which includes a catalytic aftertreatment device in its exhaust system an exhaust gas condition indicating a catalyst temperature of the aftertreatment device is monitored. A two-stroke combustion engine comprising a user-operated throttle control, an adjustable valve arranged to control one or more air intakes of the combustion engine, and a control unit arranged to control a state of the adjustable valve, wherein the combustion engine is arranged to operate in a first idle mode at an idle engine speed below a clutch engagement engine speed when the user-operated throttle control is not engaged, wherein the combustion engine is arranged to operate in a second idle mode at a target engine speed above the clutch engagement engine speed when the user-operated throttle control is engaged and when the engine is not subject to an external load, the control unit being arranged to control the state of the adjustable valve to maintain engine speed at the target engine speed when the engine operates in the second idle mode.
COMBUSTION PRESSURE DETECTION FOR A HYBRID OPPOSED PISTON ENGINE
An engine unit controller (EUC) in connection with a hybrid opposed piston engine can receive real-time movement data of a crankshaft via a crank position sensor. It can simultaneously receive current data of an electric motor that partially controls the crankshaft. With the known engine constants, the EUC can determine instantaneous combustion pressure data based on the movement data and the current data. Such combustion pressure data can be used to optimize the engine's performance in real-time.

The system may include an energy transformer configured to transform motion of the engine to electrical power.

A two-stroke engine includes a cylinder having a combustion chamber. The combustion chamber is delimited by a piston guided in a reciprocating manner in the cylinder and drives a crankshaft. A first intake channel opens into the crankcase interior. A transfer channel opens into the crankcase interior via a transfer window on a cylinder bore of the cylinder and via a passage opening. A second intake channel is provided for supplying scavenging air to the transfer channel. The first intake channel and the second intake channel are configured for supplying air. An injection valve configured for injecting the entire quantity of fuel to be supplied to the engine directly into the crankcase interior is disposed on the crankcase. A method for operating a two-stroke engine provides that the entire quantity of fuel to be supplied to the engine via a metering installation is supplied directly to the crankcase interior.

The controller controls the fuel injector with a fuel pulsewidth determined by determining a beginning time of a window for measuring fuel pressure, determining an ending time of the window, measuring fuel pressure between the beginning time and the ending time, determining a fuel pulsewidth based on the fuel pressure and fuel temperature and injecting fuel into the two-stroke engine in response to a desired fuel mass.
