A filter cartridge arrangement is provided which includes a media pack comprising Z-filter media, a preform and a housing seal member. Improvements in the preform and seal member are described which include: a single beveled surface of the seal member to facilitate installation; and, an inside region of the seal member having a tip adjacent in inwardly directed lip of the preform, to control flash during molding. A variety of media pack configurations and features are described.

An air cleaner system that potentially reduces debris entering a prime mover (e.g., engine) during removal/replacement of an air cleaner. In one embodiment, the engine includes a shroud defining an air cleaner compartment. The engine further includes a tubular air feed port defining a combustion air intake. The air feed port terminates at an end face located at or within the air cleaner compartment, and a lower portion of the end face is notched relative to other portions of the end face. In other embodiments, an engine oil drain system is provided that selectively positions a distal end of an oil drain tube at a drain position located away from the engine. The oil drain tube may also be repositioned to a stored position, wherein the distal end of the drain tube attaches to a nipple connected to either an engine housing or surrounding structure.

The filter element is installable into a filter housing having a base filter housing and a housing cover, in which an inflow opening of the cover overlaps against and aligns with an inflow opening of a base housing part such they form a continuous inflow opening. A support mesh cage arranged on the radially outer wall of the annular filter medium body. The filter housing has a longitudinally extended cross-sectional shape in which the inflow opening and an outlet opening are both arranged on the base housing part at opposing sides of the base housing part.

An air cleaner for an internal combustion engine includes a first housing having an inlet and an upper opening, a second housing having an outlet and a lower opening, a filter element arranged between the upper opening of the first housing and the lower opening of the second housing. The first housing includes a sound reducing wall portion. The sound reducing wall portion has a sound absorbing layer, which is made of nonwoven fabric, and an inner covering layer, which is fixed to the inner surface of the sound absorbing layer and made of a material having a lower air permeability than that of the sound absorbing layer.

A method of diagnosing a temperature sensor provided at a rear stage of an air filter includes: comparing a heating condition factor with a factor threshold; when the heating condition factor is less than the factor threshold, calculating a deviation between a temperature of an intake manifold and a temperature of intake air at a rear stage of an air filter; comparing a temperature threshold with the deviation; and, when the deviation exceeds the temperature threshold, diagnosing the intake air temperature sensor provided at the rear stage of the air filter as failing. According to the method, failure of a temperature sensor provided at a rear state of an air filter of an engine room can be diagnosed.

Methods and systems are provided for managing fuel vapor in a vehicle evaporative emissions system configured with a fuel vapor canister for capturing and storing vapors from a vehicle fuel tank. In one example, a three-way valve is positioned between the fuel vapor canister and atmosphere, and may function during engine-off conditions to direct fuel tank vapors through the fuel vapor canister where they may be adsorbed, and then to an intake manifold of the engine where a second adsorbent for capturing and storing fuel vapors is positioned. In this way, fuel vapors that are not adsorbed by the fuel vapor canister, or fuel vapors that are freed from the canister during engine-off conditions may be routed to the second adsorbent prior to exiting to atmosphere, thus reducing undesired bleed emissions.

An apparatus and a method are provided for a multiple inlet air box to communicate an airstream through an air filter to an air intake duct of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle. The multiple inlet air box is comprised of a housing that supports the air filter within an interior of the housing. A mount portion within the housing fixedly receives a base of the air filter. Multiple air inlets couple with corresponding air inlet ports of the vehicle to direct the airstream into the multiple inlet air box. A duct directs the airstream from the multiple air inlets to the interior of the housing. A conduit communicates the airstream from an interior of the air filter to the air intake duct of the internal combustion engine.

An air-cleaner structure of a saddle-ride vehicle is provided with an air-cleaner case arranged between a seat and a head pipe located in front of the seat. The air-cleaner case is provided with a bottom half and a top half. The bottom half is arranged in a space surrounded by a rear face of the head pipe and a pair of left and right main frames extending from the head pipe toward the rear of the vehicle. The top half is situated above the main frames. The top half is provided in a vertical two division structure. A dividing surface of the vertical two division structure of the top half is inclined in the vehicle-longitudinal direction. An air-cleaner element is mounted along the inclined dividing surface.
