A fastener assembly for connecting a fuel pipe to an engine component. The fastener assembly includes a housing and a fastener positioned within the housing. The housing has an end surface with an aperture for receiving a fuel pipe therethrough. At least one side wall extends from the end surface to define a recess for receiving a fastener therein. The fastener has a pipe inlet for receiving a fuel pipe therethrough, and a connecting arrangement for connecting the fastener to an engine component.

Sealing structure

A sealing structure includes an O-ring and a back-up ring. An outer diameter of the back-up ring is smaller than an inner diameter of a mounting portion of a delivery pipe. An inner diameter of the back-up ring is gradually increased from a pressure-receiving surface toward a seating surface, and is greater than an outer diameter of a fuel introducing portion of a fuel injection valve. In a section of the back-up ring, an edge angle defined between the pressure-receiving surface and an inner circumferential surface is smaller than a gap angle defined between the pressure-receiving surface and a tapered outer surface of a tapered portion in the fuel introducing portion. A dimension of the seating surface in the back-up ring is shorter than a dimension in an end surface.

A fuel supply system includes a fuel injector having an inlet conduit, a nozzle opening, and a valve needle which is moveable to selectively permit and prevent flow of fuel. The inlet conduit extends along an axis and includes an inlet conduit shoulder which is traverse to the axis. A fuel distribution conduit, which supplies fuel to the fuel injector, has external threads. A connection nut has internal threads which threadably engage the external threads of the fuel distribution conduit and also has an internal shoulder which is traverse to the axis. A first ring sector and a second ring sector each engage both the inlet conduit shoulder and the internal shoulder such that tightening of the connection nut causes the first ring sector and the second ring sector to be compressed between the inlet conduit shoulder and the internal shoulder.

A fuel distribution conduit supplies fuel to the fuel injector, extends along a fuel distribution conduit axis, and has external threads which threadably engage internal threads of a connection nut. A retention member is a segment of an annulus and includes a central passage extending axially therethrough and external threads which threadably engage the internal threads of the connection nut. The retention member is terminated in a direction circumferentially about the fuel distribution conduit axis by first and second end surfaces which together form a retention member slot therebetween sized to permit the inlet conduit to pass therethrough in a direction perpendicular to the fuel distribution conduit axis.

A fuel system includes a fuel injector having an inlet conduit extending along an axis, a nozzle opening, and a valve needle which is moveable to selectively permit and prevent flow of fuel from the inlet conduit through the nozzle opening. The inlet conduit has a seal support flange which provides a seal support shoulder which is traverse to the axis. A fuel rail assembly includes a fuel rail having a main fuel passage which receives fuel from a fuel source and a socket having a socket bore extending thereinto from a socket open end such that the socket bore is in fluid communication with the main fuel passage and such that the inlet conduit is received within the socket. A sealing ring which is metallic circumferentially surrounds the inlet conduit within the socket bore such that the sealing ring is compressed between the socket bore and the inlet conduit.

A fuel injector is described which is able to be preassembled in a receiving opening of a fuel-distributor line in a loss-proof manner in a structural unit in the form of a fuel charge assembly for transport to the final assembly at the vehicle manufacturer. A radial support disk for preventing the loss of the fuel injector is disposed on the inflow-side end of the inlet pipe by press-fitting the radial support disk in the receiving opening. The fuel injector is particularly suitable for the direct injection of fuel into a combustion chamber of a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine having externally supplied ignition.

Fuel pump mounting

Methods and systems are provided for mounting a fuel pump to a cylinder head of an engine. In one example, a mounting system may comprise: an engine fuel pump mounted directly to a cylinder head cap positioned underneath a cam cover, the cap including a raised portion having a first and a second cap mounting boss, and a main opening for directly receiving the fuel pump, wherein each of the first and second cap mounting bosses couple to a flange formed on a bottom portion of the fuel pump. In this way, the fuel pump may be directly mounted to the cylinder head cap to simplify assembly, minimize fuel leakage and reduce pump vibration.

VALVE FOR METERING A FLUID, IN PARTICULAR, A FUEL INJECTOR

The valve according to the present invention, in particular, a fuel injector, is characterized by having an improved sealing at its spray-side end. The fuel injector (1) includes an excitable actuator (15) for actuating a valve closing body (12), which together with a valve seat surface (14) formed on a valve seat body (13) forms a seal seat, and spray openings (4) formed downstream of the valve seat surface (14), and a valve seat support (10), which accommodates the valve seat body (13), forms a portion of a valve housing (22) and is fixedly connected to the valve seat body (13). A plastically deformable sealing element (45) is introduced into an annular gap (35) between the valve seat support (10) and the valve seat body (13) to avoid corrosion and damage of a weld seam (30). The fuel injector is particularly suitable for directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of a mixture-compressing spark ignition internal combustion engine.
