Gaseous fuel conversion system for marine vessels, and related accessories

An engine assembly is provided. The assembly includes an internal combustion engine of the type having a air intake manifold and a fuel injector in fluid communication with a cylinder head of the engine and a gasoline or diesel fuel source, a supply line in communication with each channel of the air intake manifold and being in communication with a gaseous fuel source, the supply line further defining an adapter for controlling flow of gaseous fuel therethrough, and a control module for controlling the fuel injector and a valve, the control module being configured to enable the fuel injector when the engine is operating at a first predetermined operation condition and configured to enable the valve when the engine is operating at a second predetermined operation condition. A method of controlling the same is provided herein.

The pump delivered pressure is regulated to a substantially constant set value, and output flow is varied by an inlet metering valve (5) via feedback from the motion of, or flow from the spilled fuel through, a delivered pressure regulator (13, 19). The pressure regulating element can be biased to close a seal surface (12′) against flow from the outlet side of the pump (14) toward the inlet metering valve when the pump is turned off, thereby holding sufficient rail pressure to prevent boiling during hot soak conditions. In another aspect, a flow stabilization orifice (18) is provided between the outlet of the pump and the inlet metering valve, e.g., upstream of the pressure regulating element. In yet a further aspect, the inlet metering valve is hydraulically responsive (6, S, L) to changes in flow resulting from movement of the pressure responsive element (13).

A method for operating an injection system of an internal combustion engine, including: providing the injection system includes a high pressure accumulator; regulating a high pressure in the high pressure accumulator in a normal operation by way actuating a low pressure-side suction throttle; regulating the high pressure in a first operating mode of safety operation by way of actuating at least one high pressure-side pressure control valve; carrying out a switchover from the normal operation into the first operating mode of safety operation if the high pressure reaches or exceeds a first limit pressure value; and carrying out a switchover from the first operating mode of safety operation into the normal operation if, starting from above a setpoint pressure value, the high pressure reaches or undershoots the setpoint pressure value, which is lower than the first limit pressure value.

High pressure fuel pump

A high pressure fuel pump is provided with a pumping bore and a pressure relief valve only opening to enable a return flow from the outlet conduit back to the compression chamber when the pressure in the outlet conduit exceeds a predetermined threshold. The pressure relief valve is arranged in an elongated pressure relief valve chamber extending parallel and offset to the pumping bore.

Electronic fuel injection for an internal combustion engine maintains an operator-specified air-to-fuel ratio during engine operations in high-speed, high-volume, mixed fuel applications. A microprocessor-based controller executes a program stored in memory to calculate a fuel flow value as a function of the specified air-to-fuel ratio and specified density ratio of mixed fuels. The controller outputs a control signal to a variable fuel flow relief valve and receives feedback from an engine fuel flow sensor. The controller adjusts the control signal until the feedback matches the fuel flow value. The program optimizes the fuel flow value by accounting for engine air flow, water vapor density, and dry air density effects in the calculation, based on signals received by the controller from various environmental sensors. The system has particular application in dragster engines that burn a mixture of nitromethane and methanol.

One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for interrupting fluid flow when experiencing fuel leaking conditions, such as an out of specification connection between the fuel source and a device utilizing the fluid. A distal end of a valve body has interfaces with at least a portion of a connection to a fluid supply; and a proximal end interfaces with at least a portion of a fuel intake. An internal passage runs between the proximal end and distal ends of. A displacement member in the internal passage comprises a distal portion that extends out of the valve to engage a valve to the fuel supply. A retention cap selectably engaged with the valve body can comprise a material that deforms under force at a predetermined temperature, resulting in a release of the displacement member under a biasing force form a biasing component between the cap and displacement member.

FILTRATION DEVICE FOR A COMMON RAIL FUEL INJECTOR

A filtration device may include a securement section and a filter. The securement section may be configured to be threadably secured to and extend within an interior of a common rail fuel injector. The securement section may include a passage for fuel. The passage may extend in a direction along a central axis of the securement section. The filter may be configured to be positioned within the interior of the common rail fuel injector to filter the fuel flowing through the common rail fuel injector. The filter may include a plurality of holes that are fluidly connecting to the passage of the securement section. The diameter of the filter may be smaller than a diameter of the securement section.

A high pressure fuel pump includes an inlet metering valve arranged to control a quantity of fuel delivered to the pumping chamber during retracting motion of the pumping plunger. The inlet metering valve includes a metering valve member movable between a closed position and an open position, movement of the metering valve member from the closed position to the open position defining a variable flow area that increases as the metering valve member moves from the closed position toward the open position. An actuator piston in an actuator bore is exposed to pressure in the common rail. The actuator piston is biased toward a first position corresponding to low pressure in the common rail and movable toward a second position corresponding to maximum pressure in the common rail. The actuator piston includes a valve stop that determines a metering position of the metering valve member.
