FUEL SYSTEM TEST APPARATUS AND METHOD
A method that includes coupling an external, removable fuel pressurization system to a fuel system of a vehicle while the vehicle remains in a confined space. The fuel system of the vehicle is pressurized with the fuel pressurization system while the vehicle remains in the confined space and without activating an engine of the vehicle. Decay of pressure of the fuel system is monitored following pressurization of the fuel system, and one or more of a leak, or a replaceable component, of the fuel system of the vehicle is detected based on at least in part on the decay of pressure that are monitored.
Fuel distributor
A fuel distributor features a pressure accumulator 2 with a longitudinal hollow space 3 to receive pressurized fuel. The pressure accumulator 2 possesses at least one threaded socket 7 which connects with the longitudinal hollow space 3 and which features interior threading 8, and into which a threading cap 11 with exterior threading 13 is inserted. The threading socket 7 features a sealing surface 16, which ends up being pressed onto a sealing seat 18 set up inside the pressure accumulator 2. According to the invention, a leakage channel 27 is formed within the threading cap 11. The configuration of the fuel distributor according to the invention with the leakage channel 27 in the threading socket 7 allows leakage testing under high pressure to be carried out during a short cycle or detection times, and with a high degree of precision.
Gas detection systems and methods using search area indicators
In some embodiments, a computer system generates display content indicating a likely direction and estimated distance to a potential gas leak source. The content includes a street map and at least one search area indicator on the map that indicates a search area suspected to have a gas leak source. The search area indicator has an axis indicating a representative wind direction relative to a geo-referenced location of at least one gas concentration measurement point. The search area indicator also has a width relative to the axis. The width is indicative of a wind direction variability associated with a plurality of wind direction measurements in an area of the gas concentration measurement point. The axis also preferably has a length indicating an estimated maximum distance to the potential gas leak source.
Method and system for diagnosing unintended fuelling from fuel injectors of an engine
Provided is a method for diagnosing unintended fuelling from one or more fuel injectors of a multi cylinder internal combustion engine during engine operation. Pressurized fuel is intended to be distributed by means of said fuel injectors from said accumulator tank to the cylinders for combustion. An oxidation catalyst is arranged downstream said cylinders. The method comprises: determining the pressure in the fuel accumulator tank and whether said pressure is decreasing; and determining whether the actual amount of fuel provided by the pump unit exceeds the demanded amount of fuel. The method further comprises the steps of: determining whether the temperature associated with the oxidation catalyst is above a certain level and/or determining whether the air/fuel ratio is below a certain level and/or determining whether an amount of particulate matter is above a certain level; and confirming an unintended fuelling based on the determined conditions.
Leak detection tool
A leak detection tool for a double walled fuel rail system is provided. The tool includes a body having a first end and a second end distal with respect to the first end. The tool includes a first passage extending from the first end at least partially towards the second end. The tool includes a second passage axially aligned with and extending from the first passage towards the second end. The tool includes a seat defined at an intersection of the first passage and the second passage. The tool also includes a sealing element provided in association with the seat within the second passage. The tool further includes a spring element provided within the second passage and in contact with the sealing element. The first end is configured to block fluid communication between outer passages of adjacent portions of the double walled fuel rail system.
