Method and apparatus for pumping fluid

There is provided a method of transporting fluid produced from a fluid source having a source pressure to a fluid destination having a destination pressure rating. The method has the steps of determining a compressor power requirement based on the destination pressure rating and an estimated rate of flow. A compressor having a power rating that is less than the determined compressor power requirement is provided. An input of the compressor is connected to the fluid source and connecting an output of the compressor to the fluid destination. The compressor is operated in a high volume mode for a first portion of a compression stroke path and in a low volume move for a remainder of the compression stroke path such that the compressor simulates the output from a compressor with higher power rating.

Measuring hydraulic fluid pressure in a fluid-working machine

A measurement of the pressure of hydraulic fluid in a fluid working machine can be determined from the timing of the movement of valves which selectively seal a working chamber of cyclically varying volume from a fluid gallery. The timing of opening of a low pressure valve, to connect a working chamber to a low pressure fluid gallery, following the closure of a high pressure valve to seal a working chamber can be used to estimate the pressure in the high pressure fluid gallery at the moment of closure of the high pressure valve.

The housing (40) includes a peripheral wall (42) and a door (44). The pressure gauges (PG1 to PG6) are situated at positions to face the door (44).

Roll diaphragm compressor and low-pressure vapor compression cycles

A roll-diaphragm compressor that includes a compressor head with an interface wall that defines a concave portion and with an apex portion having an inlet port and outlet port. The roll-diaphragm compressor can also include a flexible roll-diaphragm coupled to the compressor head about an edge with the roll-diaphragm driven in a rolling motion against the interface wall. The roll-diaphragm compressor can also include a compression chamber defined by the compressor head and roll-diaphragm that is configured for receiving a fluid via the inlet port in a first state, compressing the fluid based on the volume of the compression chamber being made smaller, and expelling the fluid in a second state via the outlet port.

A cryopump includes a cryopump container, a pressure sensor that measures a pressure in the cryopump container and generates time-series pressure data indicating the measured pressure, a vent valve that is provided on the cryopump container, is electrically operable to open and close, and is capable of being mechanically opened by a differential pressure between inside and outside the cryopump container, and a controller that, during cryopump regeneration, detects stabilization of the measured pressure based on the time-series pressure data from the pressure sensor and controls the vent valve to open upon detection of the stabilization of the measured pressure.

VALVE FAILURE DETERMINATION IN A PUMP MONITORING SYSTEM

A pump monitoring system for use in wellbore operations includes a strain gauge that can be positioned on a fluid end of a pump and at least one pressure transducer to measure relative pressure. A computing device can be connected to the strain gauge and the pressure transducers. The computing device executes programming instructions to identify failures of specific valves by correlating the strain signal to an actual pressure associated with the specific valve in the pump section. The processor then determines whether a pump pressure corresponds to the actual pressure associated with the specific valve, and if so, displays an indication that the specific valve in the pump section has failed.

PUMP DRIVE THAT MINIMIZES A PULSE WIDTH BASED ON VOLTAGE DATA TO IMPROVE INTAKE AND DISCHARGE STROKES

The performance of a solenoid drive liquid pump can be very dependent on the magnitude and stability of an input voltage, with non-ideal input power resulting in loss of efficiency and potential damage to the pump. Pulse width of drive signals provided to the pump, which cause solenoids to alternately energize to move liquid through the pump, may be adjusted in duration in order to compensate for non-ideal input voltage. A drive control module of the pump gathers voltage information, determines an improved pulse width based upon that voltage information, and then provides drive signals based upon the improved pulse width. Operating in this manner, a pump can operate at or near peak efficiency despite both significant variances in input voltage and non-sinusoidal input voltage, and without customized components or adapters.

Cavitation avoidance system

A monitoring system for a plurality of pressure pumps may include, for each pump, a strain gauge, a position sensor and a pressure transducer. A strain gauge may be positionable on each pump to generate a strain measurement corresponding to strain in each pump. A position sensor may be positionable on each pump to generate a position measurement corresponding to a position of a rotating member corresponding of each pump. A pressure transducer is positionable on each pump to generate a boost pressure measurement that is usable with the strain measurement and the position measurement to determine a cavitation threshold for each pump.

A plunger pump includes, independently of a pump head, a pressure detection apparatus independently having a sensor part for detecting a fluid pressure, and the pump head and the pressure detection apparatus are detachably mounted with a communication member sandwiched between them. Therefore, when the pressure detection apparatus fails, only the pressure detection apparatus can be replaced, and the pump head can be used as it is without replacement.

Single-sensor analysis system

An analysis system may determine a discharge pressure or a suction pressure using a single measurement sensor coupled to a computing device. The measurement sensor may include a pressure sensor or a strain sensor. In some aspects, the pressure sensor may generate a pressure signal representing the total pressure in a chamber of the pressure pump. The computing device may apply an envelope filter to the pressure signal to determine the discharge or suction pressure in the chamber from the pressure signal. In other aspects, the strain sensor may generate a strain signal representing the strain in the chamber. The computing device may determine the discharge or suction portions of the strain signal and may correlate the portions with a predetermined internal pressure for the pressure pump to determine the discharge or suction pressure in the chamber.
