Multi-phase pumping system with self-purging filtration
An apparatus and method prevent entrained solids from entering a pump by directing a process stream through an active upstream filter that removes the solids, and then through a downstream idle filter where the process stream purges the filter of previously retained solids. The flow path is periodically switched to exchange the roles of the filters, so that none of the filters is saturated, and the solids remain in the process flow but bypass the pump. Any need for a low pressure destination for purged solids and purging fluid and/or any environmental impact of dumping process fluid and solids into the environment is thereby avoided. Partially opened valves can be used to divert only part of the downstream flow for filter purging. Selectable paths can be included for which no filters are purged. The downstream flow can be divided and used to simultaneously purge a plurality of idle filters.
Progressive Cavity Pump And Methods For Using The Same
A device is provided for pumping fluid from a wellbore up to surface. The device includes a stator unit, a rotor unit run within the stator unit on a rod string, the rotor unit and the stator unit engaging with one another to form an annular space therebetween for passage of fluid. An upstream check valve on the rod string uphole of the rotor unit is moveable from an open position in which fluid is passable through the annular space, and a closed position in which fluid passage through the annular space is prevented. A hollow rod section extends through the rod string in fluid communication with the annular space both downstream and upstream of the upstream check valve, for entry of fluid into a downhole end of the hollow rod section, passage of fluid upstream therefrom and exit of fluids from an uphole end of the hollow rod section, back into the annular space. A method is further provided for pumping fluid from a wellbore after shutdown.
PROGRESSING CAVITY DEVICE WITH CUTTER DISKS
A stator for a helical gear device includes a first section having first helically convoluted chamber with a set of radially inwardly extending lobes and a second section adjacent to the first section. The second section includes a stack of cutter disks. Each cutter disk includes a front surface, a rear surface, an interior surface defining a central opening extending from the front surface to the rear surface, a forward cutting edge, and a rearward cutting edge. The interior surface forms a same number of lobes for the central opening as the set of radially inwardly extending lobes in the first section. Each cutter disk is aligned along a common centerline, and each cutter disk is rotated slightly relative to each other to form a second helically convoluted chamber with a same pitch as the first helically convoluted chamber. The second helically convoluted chamber exposes, to materials passing through, portions of the forward cutting edge or the rearward cutting edge of each cutter disk.
METHOD FOR MONITORING AN OPERATING STATE OF A PUMPING DEVICE
A method is for surveillance of an operating state of a pumping device connected to a process chamber in order to determine a failing operating state of the pumping device. The pumping device includes at least one rough-vacuum pump including a motor for driving the rough-vacuum pump and a variable speed drive to control the rotation speed of the motor, to receive a first input parameter corresponding to a set point frequency and a second input parameter corresponding to a motor current, and to deliver to the motor an output parameter corresponding to a control frequency. A failing operating state is determined when in steady-state operation the difference between the first input parameter and the output parameter is equal to or exceeds 10% of the first input parameter for a predetermined time greater than 3 seconds. The method can be implemented in a pumping device and an installation.
