Embodiments of a dermatological cosmetic treatment and/or imaging system and method adapted to alter placement and position of multiple (e.g., two or more) cosmetic treatment zones in tissue from ultrasound beams from a transducer, simultaneous multi-focus therapy at multiple depths, and/or dithering ultrasound beams from a transducer to alter placement and position of multiple cosmetic treatment zones in tissue. The system can include a hand wand, a removable transducer module, and a control module. In some embodiments, the cosmetic treatment system may be used in various cosmetic procedures.
System for treating a volume of tissue with high intensity focused ultrasound
A method and system for treating a desired volume of tissue using HIFU or other energy modality includes ablating a pattern of elemental treatment volumes each having a volume that is greater than that of the focal zone of the HIFU transducer but smaller than the overall volume of the desired treatment volume. In at least one embodiment, the elemental treatment volumes are arranged to form a shell which partially or wholly encapsulates the desired volume of tissue, which then necroses in situ. The elemental treatment volumes are created by distributing HIFU energy in multiple doses with repeated passes of the focal zone of the HIFU transducer in a trajectory over or along a perimeter of each elemental treatment volume.

An ultrasound apparatus of a body cavity insertable type includes: a handpiece; a supporting rod that is elongated from the handpiece; an ultrasound probe that includes a housing that is connected to the supporting rod and an ultrasound transducer that is fixed to the housing; and an ultrasound transmission medium circulation mechanism that is configured to discharge an ultrasound transmission medium filled in an ultrasound transmission space that is formed at a front of the ultrasound transducer and to inflow the discharged ultrasound transmission medium to the ultrasound transmission space again. The housing and the ultrasound transducer are configured such that the ultrasound transmission medium filled in the ultrasound transmission space is prevented from inflowing to a rear space of the ultrasound transducer.

Ultrasound transducers adjust the B.sub.1.sup.+ and/or B.sub.1.sup.− field distribution in an MRI apparatus to improve the signal sensitivity and homogeneity at a region of interest. Approaches employed include strategic placement of field-altering features such as slots and/or dipoles along the exterior surface or, in some cases, the interior of the transducer. In various embodiments, the field-altering features are (or behave as) passive resonators.

An ultrasound apparatus of a body cavity insertable type includes: a handpiece; a supporting rod which is elongated from the handpiece; an ultrasound probe which is connected to the supporting rod and is configured to be able to be inserted in the body cavity; and a sealing cover which is separably coupled to the ultrasound probe to at least partially surround the ultrasound probe in a longitudinal direction from a distal end thereof. The ultrasound probe includes: a piezoelectric element; and a housing to which the piezoelectric element is mounted. An end of the housing is connected to the supporting, and the housing is provided with an ultrasound passing hole which is disposed outside the supporting rod. The sealing cover has an ultrasound passing window which is formed at a position corresponding to the ultrasound passing hole.

A high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) system (100,400) for selectively sealing a vessel network (360) in a liver includes a generator (110,410,420) configured to generate and supply electric power, and an acoustic assembly (200,130,150) configured to receive the supplied electric power. The acoustic assembly (200,130,150) includes a first transducer (310,430) configured to generate vibrations having a first frequency, and a second transducer (320,440) configured to generate vibrations having a second frequency. When a first focal point of the generated vibrations having the first frequency and a second focal point of the generated vibrations having the second frequency are aligned within a focused region (350), a group of vessels (360) at the focused region (350) are selectively sealed.
Band transducer ultrasound therapy
Embodiments of a dermatological cosmetic treatment and/or imaging system and method can include use of transducer to create a linear thermal treatment zone at a focal depth to form a band shaped treatment area. The system can include one or more ultrasound transducers, a cylindrical transduction element, an imaging element, a hand wand, a removable transducer module, a control module, and/or graphical user interface. In some embodiments, a coated transducer may be used to provide more consistent treatment in cosmetic procedures, including brow lifts, fat reduction, sweat reduction, and treatment of the décolletage. Skin tightening, lifting and amelioration of wrinkles and stretch marks are provided. Treatment may include heating of tissue for a duration to deactivate a percentage of cells in the treatment region.
